Brussels

Overview

Join Mr Oystercatcher looking for good value and service in Brussels, the heart of European Government (and rip off hotels).
This is a truly cosmopolitan city. As you walk about you hear such a wide selection of langauges and mix of business men politicians and tourists. A vsit to the internet looking for hotels was very worthwhile, A good number of independents were available and may posted their rates for appraisal. Don't be too scared about getting a hotel that isn't very central. Both the underground and the bus system are very clean, efficient and easy to use.

Our room was small and cozy, plenty of room for two people. The closet was spacious, and everything was clean and bright. Nicely furnished and decorated with art by what we were later to learn is mostly by local Key West artists. For the very reasonable price, we were pleased.

One very appealing thing about the inn is its location, a half block off Duval Street, right around the corner from the Hemingway House.

Another thing we liked a lot were the proprietors, Tom and Nancy Coward. Very nice people.

We ate at Margaritaville twice. Both times, the food was hot, plentiful and good. The jerk shrimp was tasty and just spicy enough. And, of course, we had a Cheeseburger in Paradise - made just like the song says - "Medium rare with mustard... onion slice... lettuce and tomato... Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes... Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer," but our waitress assured us we could have our burgers any way we wanted them.

I also loved the fruity frozen daiquiris, and my husband loved his mango margarita.

Good food in a fun and loud environment. We arrived in the middle of the afternoon, and there was good music playing. We had barbecue pork sandwiches, and they were *big* and tasty. Quite juicy. And the beer was super cold, which was a necessity that very hot afternoon, we thought!
