Quickie trip to D.C.

So, everyone says you have to have at least a week to spend, well, we didn't have that long, and I'm pleased with what we were able to do!

Friday: got in around 3 or so, grabbed a quick bite to eat, caught up with our friends... and decided to go to the music night at the Smithsonian. We also watched the Imax movie while we were there.

Saturday: We started making our rounds with the monuments. Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WWII, Whitehouse Tour. We also went to the Zoo.

Sunday: International Spy Museum -a lot of fun, but kinda pricey. We also went to Arlington Cemetery. That evening we drove to Medieval Times dinner and jousting in Maryland.

Monday: Went to the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum and toured the Capital Building. We also finished seeing the monuments -FDR, Jefferson, Vietnam Vet...

Quick Tips:

Bring your walking shoes! Best thing we spent money on was the tourmobile. We only did it for Arlington Cemetery, but I would suggest doing the whole day. My feet have never hurt so bad in my life! The other main thing was the Capital Building tour, I scheduled through our Representatives office and I would highly recommend it. I was surprised and amazed at how wonderful and awesome it was.

Best Way To Get Around:

On Saturday and Sunday driving into the city was no problem. But on Friday and Monday we just drove to the metro and took it in.
We booked through www.site59.com and saved $$$. The hotel is going through some renovations, but it was in a good neighborhood, safe, nice rooms -we had two rooms the bed room and then a sitting room with a table, microwave, desk... we also had a complimentary hot breakfast buffet.

We spent $378 and that included 4 nights at the hotel and 5 day car rental at Avis.
