Some highlights of the trip for me personally were the food, and the water. This island has an amazing ocean that is laden with ocean life to both explore and eat. Of course, it has something to offer the non-aquatic audience. There are many quaint shops, bars, and restaurants on the West side, and some hiking and other activities elsewhere. Roatan is quickly becoming a favourite vacation spot throughout the world.
Quick Tips:
Favourite places to eat are on the West end. If you want to party, go to the West end, Coxenhole can be a little dangerous at night. If you want to snorkel go to West Beach. For culture, visit the main town, Coxenhole, and also go south for a mangrove tour - which is definitely a must. The amount of money seems to dwindle as you go south. In the town of Jonesville, (mangroves) you will see some crazy architecture, and lots of pirate caves. oh... p.s. The locals say to carry money with you - the Policia aren't that friendly all the time!Best Way To Get Around:
SCOOTERS! because of the many potholes, using a car can be a little rough. The scooters down there are about 100cc - twice as powerful as any of the ones that are usually legal... so they are loads of fun. The island is small enough to navigate on these things.
