Purgatory was one of the most positive experiences in a ski/snowboard trip I've ever had. Most of the places that I came to visit on this trip were fascinating or exhilarating in more ways that one. Opening into a sudden snowstorm that lasted two weeks, my trip probably could not have been better timed. In this late-January period, the Purgatory mountain was hit with several feet of snow in a relatively small period of time. Pausing to view the peculiar white sheet of sky coming over the mountain led me to believe that it is time to put on my gloves and zip my hood. Only about ten minutes earlier had the sky protruded a nicely lit shade of blue with only the slightest indication of a cloud in the distance.
My first place of lodging on the mountain was the Best Western motel/inn, which was reasonably priced and placed within a 5-minute bus ride of the resort's base. I lodged for 5 days in this place and found it to be cozy in comfort for $150 daily.
I was well looked after (partially because the resort was 80% empty at this time) by the staff and was able to receive my continental breakfast any time of the day or late night.
The conclusion of this lodging was a lovely staff and a nice breakfast, while waiting for the ski-bus to arrive on premises. Probably a late-decision to lodge in a budget inn, I was pleasantly surprised to find the inn like so.
