Gloria Hotel La Paz Best of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Hotel Gloria"

Quote:
After finding the Hotel Rosario had not kept a room for my confirmed reservation, I was booked in the Gloria. It is plain, modern hotel, well-located near Plaza San Francisco with smallish but decent rooms. The restaurant is adequate, but the breakfast (included) is good. The staff are friendly and helpful. Several are fluent in English, French, or German as wellas Spanish.

Alexander Coffee Best of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Quote:
The Potosi location is one branch of a chain with other branches in Sopacachi and at the airport. Good coffee, excellent hot chocolate, decent pastries, and light lunch fare; all of it better and much cheaper than a typical Starbucks. Good place to catch one's breath after a walk in the high altitude city.

An Argentine steakhouse with a large array of meat choices, all cooked on the grill in front. The menu includes all kinds of grilled meats as well as some pastas with a large array of good Argentinian and Chilean wines to drink with the meal. With a pleasant country ambiance, the service is very good, and by European and North American standards the prices are shockingly low. A great place for a special tourist meal or a business meal.

Chacaltaya Best of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Quote:
I love really high places and do not suffer from soroche. With a limited amount of time, I wanted to get as high as possible. Chacaltaya, the world's highest ski area, offers road access to 5,300m and an additional climb to the peak at 5,400m. Truly breathtaking in every sense with stunning views of the Cordillera Real, the altiplano and Lago Titicaca and the edges of La Paz. Finished the climb with a cup of coca tea at the Club Andino hut. A must do for anyone who is soroche free.
