A Week in the Caymans

We took a trip out to a big tourist attraction called Sting Ray City. It's not a city--it's a sandbar out in the bay where the stingrays congregate when tour boats come in. The rays enjoy having people feed them. They are very docile creatures in this area and very used to interacting with people. The trip is about 20-30 min by boat to the sand bar. You can stand in waiste-high water and watch the rays swim all around. They teach you to hold and kiss them. YOu even get a back rub from them! Then they take you a little farther out to the coral reef for some snorkeling. The water is so clear and warm--it's so beautiful.

Quick Tips:

This trip was well worth the per person offered from our dive shop at the resort. We felt it was the best thing we did all week! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. We brought some of our own snorkel gear and used some of theirs. There was a CD for purchase from your trip.

Best Way To Get Around:

The resort has a dock where the boat picks you up. It also had a complimentary shuttle that took us to the local grocery store, into town to the 7 Mile Beach, and arrangements could be made for the shuttle to take you to restaurants for dinner and back to the resort.

The unit was a one-bedroom with a king-size bed. The bathroom had double sinks and a large walk-in shower. It also had a full kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, and nice-size refrigerator. The unit also had a TV in both the bedroom and living room. There was a DVD player and CD player in a very nice, large wooden entertainment unit. It also had a washer and dryer in it. We were on the third floor, which had a very nice balcony overlooking the complex. The view extended to the beach and Caribbean Sea. There were many nice palm trees on property that swayed in the breezes. The landscaping was very nice, with many unusual plants and flowers. The unit was spacious and comfortable.

We ate dinner at this restaurant, which is right at the resort, several times. They offered dinner specials during the week for the guests staying there. We got free wine with one meal, free appetizers at another. The meals were very well prepared. The portions were more than satisfying and very delicious. I really loved their dinner rolls. They were slightly crunchy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. Desserts were very good as well. The bar service is excellent.

My husband decided to take advantage of the free lesson to learn to scuba dive, since he had never done this before. He said it was fun and interesting and much easier than snorkeling. He doesn't swim much either, so this was a big experience for him. He said the dive was really beautiful and fun.
