The desert is a fantastic place!! Anyway, despite how boring the dust storm got as it went on for hours (or so it seemed), it was really cool!!! At Sedona, I quite enjoyed the Red Rocks Jeep Ride... it was a good way to see the fantastic scenery, and have fun at the same time! But the best of all was the Grand Canyon. Words cannot describe how wonderful it really is! It's just awe inspiring... You have to see it for yourself.Quick Tips: The small artist community of Sedona was another cool stop on the tour. Much more interesting than the little we saw of Pheonix (thanks to the storm!), it made a good side trip... I picked up a little fox fetish there... I l...Read More

Depending on where you stay, room prices can range drastically. Check the different prices on the web site before you go. We stayed in the Maswik Lodge cabins which were rustic, but equipped with two queen sized beds, a shower, telephone and a colour television. While staying there, we saw deer walking around the lodges... it was quaint and quite a nice place to stay, if you don''t mind bugs. That was the only negative thing about the rooms. The bed had little bugs that squished and looked like drops of blood in the morning. Neither of us staying in the room had any idea what was going on until I woke early one morning (while Robyn was g...Read More

The "Red Rocks Jeep Ride" was actually quite fun. All of the drivers/guides were all dressed up in western clothing, with guns (for show - not real guns) and everything! It all goes along with their slogan - "Sedona's Cowboy Tour Company"! We drove around and it was so fun - getting bounced around in the jeep made up for not getting to Sea World the day before. Who needs a roller coaster when you're getting tossed around in a jeep?? It was lots of fun, and you got to see the scenery around the town, and heard lots of information about the place. Including how mescal tequila is made with the worm in it. Ewww! We were on the "Canyons and Cowboys" tour - A ...Read More

6th July 1999 Today was lots and lots of driving - from San Diego to Pheonix. It was warm in San Diego ... when we got out on the first break, it was hot and very sunny. The scenery changed as we went along, too ... lots of arid land, hills that looked entirely composed of rocks, hills covered in tiny, round shrubs, and then on to the desert with cacti everywhere. One place along the way looked like a beach, at Yuma - all yellow sand with no plants! What they call ''desert'' out in Arizona, though, had too many plants for my image of a desert! There were shrubs and cacti, true, but I was expecting something more like that place at Yuma, or even out in Central Au...Read More

7th July 1999 Before the day started, a group of people from the tour went on an optional balloon ride, myself not included. (Getting up at 4am?? Are you crazy?!) Thanks to Eric, I have some photos from their trip! This morning, we headed from Pheonix to a cute little town called Sedona. It was a cute little place in the middle of these huge monoliths that look like red, funny shaped mountains. A bit like lots of mini Ayers Rocks, with different shapes and lots of green plants everywhere. It looked like a set of a western movie! When there, we had a little time for shopping (lots of Indian stuff) and looking around, and then headed off on a "Red Rocks Jeep Ride" - the ...Read More
