One Week in Orlando

Best Of IgoUgo

Overview

Quote:
Margaritaville in Universial Studio City walk.. In fact, anything in CityWalk was a blast. We also enjoyed Islands of adventure and Universal studios. MGM studios and Animal Kingdom at Disney were great, along with SeaWorld. There's way too much stuff to do in Orlando!Quick Tips: If you're budged concious, avoid the theme park hotels. You can find some really good deals, just a short drive away from the theme parks. Best Way To Get Around: Rent a car.. but rent it in advance. I paid .95 for the whole week (in advace through thrifty... booked on their website). The man at the thrifty counter said that people who were trying to rent now were paying over for the same rental. It pays to...Read More

Orlando Metropolitan Resort

Hotel | "Radisson Barcelo"

Quote:
The room was $56 per night. It was a good rate for a "deluxe" room. The hotel is divided into 2 parts. One is a tower, and the other resembles a motel. The $56 rate (booked on their website, AAA rate) got us a room in the motel side. It was clean, 2 queensize beds, coffee pot. Nothing fancy. Pool was great. Location can''t be beat.. smack dab in the middle of International (I-drive) drive.

Stayed one night here.. $49 per night, booked through travelscape.com Very good room, better than the Radisson Barcelo, which is where we spent the rest of our vacation. Rooms clean, pool fabulous, and the people were very friendly.

Bahama Breeze

Restaurant | "Bahama Breezes"

Quote:
This place had wonderful caribbean food, and a great amosphere. They don't accept reservations, and it's usually pretty busy, so go early to minimize wait times. If you've got to wait for a table, they have a huge patio bar with tropical music playing. Their drink menu is impressive.. many, many different cocktails.. Their signature drink is a "bahamarita". It's a twist on a frozen margarita, and it's great. The food is also wonderful, and reasonably priced. For 2 people we had: Appetizer - Conch and shrimp fritters Appetizer - Coconut Prawns (out of this world fabulous) Dinner - Salmon pasta Dinner - One of the nightly dinner specials, seafood and pasta Dessert - Warm banana br...Read More

For the parrothead!! Dine among seaplanes, sailboats, and a giant erupting volcano (that erupts Margarita's.. what else?) Patio outside, entertainment inside and outside.. gift store (margaritaville mini-mart) Even non-parrotheads will enjoy Margaritaville... Place has 2 floors, 3 bars, and lots of seats. I think they do take reservations, but it's so cool in there, you don't mind waiting at the bar. Prices: moderate but not too bad.. it's a little pricey because it's in citywalk. The drinks are the most expensive thing there. We ate here about 5 times in our trip and some of the food we had was: Conch fritters, Nachos, Cheeseburger in paradise, steak, 5 pepper p...Read More

Quote:
All in all, I'm not impressed with the Rainforest Cafe. I love the atmosphere and the gift shop, it's just that every time I eat there, the food isn't all that great. Sure, it sounds good in the description on the menu, but when you get it, it's just not that good. It's pretty pricey, too. My recommendation is to visit the Rainforest Cafe gift shop, buy a Tshirt, take some pictures, and skip the dinner.

Boston Lobster Feast I-Drive

Best Of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Boston Lobster Feast"

Quote:
This place is great if you're hungry! It's an all you can eat seafood restaurant, featuring Lobsters.. not warm water lobsters.. new england lobsters. They have all sorts of seafood, peel and eat shrimp, steamers, stuffies, crab legs, fish n chips, mussels, crab cakes, baked fish, oysters, and more. Oh, and the lobsters!! They also have some veggies, salads, pastas, chicken, rice, and beef for non-seafood eaters, but I woudn't reccomend going if you don't like seafood. Price was 27.95 per person, and we had a coupon we found at the hotel for a "free drink" which included cocktails or beer/wine/soda. The lobster was fabulous.. boiled and served with a s...Read More

Very pricey and debatable as to whether or not it was worth it. Everyone was very friendly, service was fabulous. We had reservations which we made a week in advance (and still got 10pm on a Wednesday). Our table wasn't quite ready, so we had a drink at the bar (2 martinis $25 with tax/tip). When our table was ready, we headed up to a small table upstairs. We shared 2 appetizers, a mushroom and truffle pizza, and a crab and goat cheese pastry. The pizza was fabulous, but the pastry was just OK. For dinners, we had a Veal chop and toreanados of beef with crab. Both were very good, served exactly the right temperature, but again, not "fabulous". For dessert we shared banana cream p...Read More

Coco's

Restaurant

Quote:
We should have known that when many of the restuarants had a 1.5 hour wait, and Coco's had no wait, that it wasn't going to be that great. Place was not crowded at all. Waiter was indifferent and actually kind of a moron, and food was overpriced for what it was. We had: App- Coconut shrimp i'd give it a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10 Dinner - Chicken Marsala (it was "ok") Dinner - Pasta Carbonara (just "ok") Couple of beers added in, and the bill was $40 There was actually some sort of mix up with the check.. the waiter rang up the pasta carbonara (which was a special, so we didn't know the price) as "lobster special for $17.99". We questioned him, saying ...Read More

Universal's Islands of Adventure

Attraction | "Islands of Adventure"

Quote:
This theme park is relatively new. When you go in, you see the incredible hulk roller coaster on your left. This ride is great! By far, the best ride was the Spiderman ride. It's a 3-D ride with absolutely great special effects. The flume ride (dudley do-right's falls) was fun too. We had to buy ponchos ($6) because the weather in January was a bit chilly to get all wet on a water ride. Park has several roller coasters, shows, and more. Very clean, people are very nice. If you buy the 2 day pass, you can also get admission to Universal Studios as well. Note: Ask for a AAA discount if you're a member (remmeber to bring your AAA card with you!) Most stores in Universal will al...Read More

Universal Studios Florida

Universal studios is great. "Must do" activies include the Jaws ride, Terminator 3D ride, E.T. ride, and Back to the Future ride. There's much more to do and see here and fun for all ages. Be sure to check out the "brown derby hat shop".. where we tried on some very funny and different hats.. During busy times, they have a "single rider" line. This means, that if the ride seats 4 people accross, and a family of 3 people sit there, the ride attendants take one person from the single rider line. You don't get to ride with the people in your group, but for some rides, it can cut your wait time down by an hour or more. We waited 10 minutes in the single rider line for the Men in Black...Read More

WonderWorks

Attraction

Quote:
Wonderworks is an upside down building on I-drive. They have all sorts of things to do (including laser tag). There are interactive games, learning games, brain teasers, etc. When you first walk in, you go through a spinning tunnel and you feel like you're spinning, when the floor is actually not moving at all. They have an earthquake simulator, hurricane simulator, games, etc. this is a neat 1/4 to 1/2 day attraction.

Disney's Animal Kingdom

Attraction | "Animal Kingdom"

Quote:
Animal Kingdom is great. When you walk in, you see the "tree of life".. a giant tree with all different animals carved in it. In fact, you can see the tree from any point in Animal Kingdom. Animal Kingdom is divided up in to several regions: Dinosaur land (maybe not the actual name, but it was all dinosaurs) Asia Africa Camp Mickey & Minnie The safari is in Africa.. not to be missed. Asia has a walking tour where you can see tigers, birds, bats, and more. There's also a water ride (like a raft ride) in Asia that's really neat. The scenery is impressive, you really feel like your in Africa when you go through that part of the park. They also have some...Read More

Disney's Hollywood Studios

Attraction | "Disney's MGM Studios"

Quote:
Out of MGM studios or Universal studios, we both thought Universal was better. MGM had some great attractions however. We saw the Indiana Jones stunt spectacular.. great pyrotechnics show.
The star wars ride was good, and the backlot studio tour/catastrophe canyon ride was great too.
The tower of terror ride was by far the best ride there. It's based on the Twilight Zone, and not too scary but still very good. Aerosmith's Rockin' Roller Coaster was also a good time. It's a roller coaster in the dark- in a "limosine." Each seat in the limo has aerosmith blasting out of about 8 speakers.

SeaWorld Orlando

Attraction | "Sea World"

Quote:
Saw flamingos, manatees, dolphins, turtles, alligators, stingrays, sharks, penguins. Fed the sealions and stingrays. Saw a great show "Seamore and Clyde take Pirate Island". Saw the "Shamoo rocks america" show. Great stuff. The Kraken roller coaster is the best in Orlando. They have an area of sea world called "key west". Makes you feel like you are there. Ate lunch in Key west, listened to some Jimmy Buffett. Doensn't get much better than that. The dolphins are great, they swim right up and you can pet and feed them. All in all, SeaWorld was one of the best things we did in Orlando.
