I use Los Angeles as my jumping off point for other destinations. While I work for the City of Los Angeles,I live three hundred miles to the north. We drive to Los Angeles as it has several advantages over other cities for me.

Los Angeles has some of the best restaurants and hotels to be found anywhere. Shopping here is always a good bet as are strolls along the beach and the Santa Monica Pier.

Quick Tips:

Los Angeles is a big city and caution is necessary when visiting as with any other big city.

Best Way To Get Around:

Los Angeles has excellent public transportation as well as taxis. A private car is still the best way of getting around.
Ramada Inn Lax South
I like this hotel as it is close to Los Angeles International Airport, yet not right on the glidepath. It is right next to the 405,(San Diego Freeway),but not close enough to hear it. The rooms, while older, are clean and the service is excellent. In room coffee pots, irons, hair dryers and a small refrigerator all add to the convenience of the hotel. Free airport shuttle to LAX is a plus as is the small courtyard by the pool. We use this hotel often to lay over while waiting for a flight out of LAX.

We find it relaxing to go pick up take out Chinese at Hawthorne Plaza and a bottle of wine at the Albertsons Market, return to the hotel and eat in the courtyard.

At $56.00 with only a AAA discount you can''t beat it. Many of the other hotels in the area are not as quiet and convenient, and yet are more expensive.

While the room was OK I wouldn''t recommend this motel. Several problems make this place undesirable as a stay over in my book. First and worst is the fact that it lies right in the glide path for Los Angeles International Airport, not fun when you consider that LAX is a very busy airport. Add to this drawback the fact that the property fronts Century Blvd and traffic noise and sirens are heard all night and a quiet night will not be you''re experience here. But wait, it gets worse, this seems to be a congregation point for people in transit to conventions, and that means noisy neighbors.

Service here is lousy, plain and simple. Upon arriving in our room we discovered the phone was out of order. They promised a repairman would check it, and he never came, forcing us to use our cellphone and incur roaming charges.

Add all this up, and the best advice I can give you is spend your vacation dollar elsewhere, the place is a dump. At $79.00 a night it is less convenient to LAX than the Furama on Lincoln Blvd at $79.00 or Ramada Inn, LAX South on El Segundo Blvd. at $56.00 a night. Both these hotels are better more convenient, and a much better bargain.
