Fun With the Grandkids

An October 2006 trip to Pigeon Forge by cabinhunter

We went to the Smokeys to have a good time and visit some of the places we had not been on previous trips. I have never written any kind of review good or bad about a trip we have taken, but I decided it was time I did.

This was our fourth year to be in the Smokeys. We have always rented cabins because we go with family and it is more affordable. This is the first and I hope last time we get a cabin this uncomfortable and small with almost no view. The bed was broken or something. It swayed in the middle like an old mule that had been plowed to death. The whole cabin was about 22x30 with a bedroom upstairs. The trees were grown up right next to the cabin so you only had a few little wholes you could see out when you were on the bottom deck and the back deck was facing the mountain.

The living room was so small you couldn't pass any one. There was only enough room to move one way at a time. It cost us $165 per night when it may have been worth $100 per night compared to the other cabins we have rented. In case you are wondering the name of the cabin was Mountain Dream. I think it should have been called Mountain Out House for the price.

Restaurant | "Ponderosa"

This is an old restaurant that serves all meals and has a buffet. The buffet is very small and the food taste like it was cooked in old oil. The steak was tough and not cooked to order.

This is a very good place to eat. They have excellent food breakfast and dinner. The price is very good to, especially if you have small children.

Attraction

I personally think this is about the worse theme park I have ever been to. There are maybe 5 rides each for adults, children, and toddlers. You wait 15 to 45 minutes to ride each one and then you get to ride from 1 minute to 2 1/2 minutes depending on the ride. The few shows they have you get to wait in line for also. But if you love to browse shops that are really expensive, this is the place to be. Personally I don't see paying $45 to shop when there are lots and lots of shops in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg to browse, and, you can most likely afford to buy something there.

This place is fun and affordable. The tram ride to the mountain is an adventure on its own, then when you get to the top there are things for every age to enjoy. The Alpine slide is the best.
