NY State Road Trip

A September 2006 trip to Silver Spring by NotYourBroom

We drove up from Silver Spring to stay with a friend in Rochester, and then drove over to Niagara Falls.

This is your typical Best Western. It's not amazing lodging but you stay there for the price anyway. The hotel was clean. The staff could have used some training, but we complained and got a discount, so no hard feelings here. The location isn't great, but it's not horrible either. You have to drive to the falls but it's not a long drive. I'd recommend it to hose on a budget.

Restaurant

I usually don't go to these unless I'm desperate, but we were pretty desperate at this point. It's your typical Hard Rock—the food is decent, plays good music, the memorabilia is fun. The best thing is the location ride on the edge of the Niagara Falls State Park.

The food is great. This is authentic Greek dining, which I've never had before. The atmosphere is romantic, with candles and such. Definitely recommend it while you are in Rochester.

Ruby Tuesday'sBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This is located right in the heart of the Niagara Falls tourism strip. We asked a local what good, Canadian food was and she said Ruby Tuesday's, which is odd considering their website says 'Simple, Fresh American Dining'. Guess they don't really have Canadian food? The food is decent just like any other Ruby Tuesday's you've ever been to. The service was bad, but that's the only complaint. Niagara Falls is really lacking non-chain restaurants.

Restaurant

Dining area in the Wegman's grocery store. Great selection of buffet items, good food, decent price. And a nice middle spot between Silver Spring and Rochester.

Attraction | "Maid in the Mist"

A boat ride to the falls takes you right up to the falls. An interesting way to view the falls, but not as fun as cave in the Winds.

Cave of the WindsBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Cave in the Winds"

This is the best thing to do in Niagara Falls. You walk right up to one of the smaller falls. The highest deck is called the hurricane zone and that is exactly what it feels like.

Rainbow BridgeBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Walk this bridge into Canada instead of driving. It's a beautiful view that you appreciate more if you are not stuck in a car, and the line for customs is nonexistent because everyone else is driving.
