Shop till you drop! You could spend hours browsing the great shops and antique malls. Most of the shops are in sweet renovated houses or old stores. Many of the buildings are on the national historic register. The folks of this town really had it together to bring a great commercial draw to their small community. There are two really good restaurants. On a summer's day I am sure you will find more shoppers in Glendale than there are residents. As they say in Glendale, "Stay an hour or stay a weekend, you'll be glad you came."Quick Tips: This small town is about 10 or 15 miles from Elizabethtown, KY. It is a nice stop if you are on your way through KY on I65. You can park your car in one spot...Read More

The slogan is "Southern Cooking at its finest in a unique dining atmosphere" and I would say that sums it up. They have done a great job of decorating with a train and country living theme. There are tall wooden booths and the doors to the bathrooms are designed like outhouse doors. There is a lot of railway memorabilia throughout the restaurant which adds a whimsical flavor to the place. The food is good old style southern country cooking. Fried chicken, real mashed potatoes and green beans were my choices and they were wonderful. The menu also included pot roast and fried catfish. There were lots of old fashioned veggies to go along with the meals. Dessert, which is always my favorite p...Read More

Be prepared to leave full! The Depot is a favorite among locals and visitors and after eating there I can see why. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. For lunch there is a variety of selections including bean soup, club sandwiches, and burgers. In the evening you can get filet mignon or lobster as well as some local cuisine such as catfish or fried chicken. I have eaten here several times and it has always been delicious. The Depot is next door to the Toy Museum and the interesting decor includes lots of old toys and dolls. It seems that every space is filled with a treasure from the past. When I went into the restroom I was delighted to see a set of paper dolls that I had as a c...Read More

This was my favorite of the antique shops I visited. It is large, with 45 dealers. It is a maze of booths chock full of glassware, collectibles and antiques of all sorts. It is like traveling through time as you wind through the isles. There were many cookie jars and salt/pepper sets. Booth after booth of old treasures made my journey through the store seem to fly by as I was dazzeled by all the great finds. In addition to the antiques, there was one dealer that had great concrete yard art. I bought a sweet cat bird bath. I spent more than I should have but had great fun doing it. The operator was friendly and helpful and seemed to have the inventory memorized ...Read More

Log Cabin Shops is a mall type setting with new merchandise, crafts and antiques in the booths. It sits next door to the toy museum. The shop is very cute on the outside and invites you in with enthusiasm to enter its maze. It is much bigger on the inside than it appears. As I strolled through room after room I enjoyed the mix of new and old. With each corner I turned, I found a delightful surprise. There was a room with Christmas items, another with crafts and lots of glass and collectibles.

As you approach the Antique Toy Museum you are delighted with the appearance of the outside. A small wooden train track runs in front in keeping with the theme of the downtown Glendale train track. Snow White and Mickey Mouse great you and a hand carved wooden door with Olive Oil and Popeye swing to let you in. I will say it was a bit unnerving to see my childhood toys resting on a shelf in an antique toy museum. There were lots of toys from the turn of the century through the 70's. In the center of the large room was a glass case with an antique toy train that was just beautiful. It was fully operational and the set up was very attractive. An antique carousel sat in the corner that had ...Read More

This was a wonderful little shop in an old house just down the street from the Whistle Stop Restaurant. It had handmade decoys, baskets, laces, candles and garden ornaments. I spent a long time just browsing and enjoying the smells and sights of the shop. Many of the crafts were made by the owner and were skillfully done. There were ornamental iron hangers for the garden out front and seemed to be a popular item and reasonably priced. The real treat was the handmade cherry furniture. It was incredible and each peice was made with great care. The many unique items were varied in style and types. The shop was well appointed and the staff was friendly and anxious to show off their wares. You...Read More

This was a shop/mall with about 20 vendors. While most of them had antiques there were several that also carried crafts and one that had concrete garden ornaments. It wasn't as big as some of the other malls but was well worth the stop. I enjoyed the glass which was displayed in many of the booths. There is a tiny garden space beside the shop where the concrete ornaments were displayed. I wasn't able to leave without purchasing a precious little concrete bunny for my shade garden. There was a large selection of Blue Ridge Pottery. Since I don't know anything about it I can't really tell you if it was good or bad, just that it was there! This was a fun shop with lots of interesting things....Read More

This shop is located in an old grocery store. When you enter the shop the sounds of Kentucky music are softly playing for your enjoyment. They carry a large selection of Bluegrass music and books about Kentucky. It has well displayed Kentucky arts and crafts. The isles are filled with jewelry, glassware, pottery and crafts all made in the state. There is a gourmet food section, all made in KY. You can also find beautiful handmade quilts and pillows which hang over the rail of the upstairs loft. Annette Howlett, the owner, said they would have their web site up and operating for online shopping in mid May. This little gift shop was a delightful blend of sights, sounds and smells. The candles and other aroma merchandise filled the air with a wonderful blend of smells. The people here were so excited to have me look around and take pictures of their store. You could tell it was a labor of love. There were lots of elegant peices of pottery, jewelry and other luxury gift items. In the middle of the store was a homemade fudge shop. You can guess what I purchased there! The shop was in another cute little house that has been transformed into a business. A great deal of attention has been given to making the shop an elegant shopping experience. While I was there they were fussi...Read More
