Best Way To Get Around:

You can walk around most of the main sights, but be prepared for sore feet and legs...

Smithsonian Institution: National Museum of Natural HistoryBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "The Natural History Museum"

You could spend hours in here, well I could, and did, in fact. This is a really great museum with a fantastic collection including dinosaur fossils, early hominids, stuffed modern mammals, ethnographic displays from Africa and Asia, geological and mineral displays... I could go on. There's plenty of information and I particularly liked the little plaques with the latest info which gave any scientific updates which had come along since an exhibit was set up. Many shops here too, I bought geodes. Geodes!

International Spy MuseumBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "The Spy Museum"

An entertaining exhibition covering spying methods and the history of spying. Loads of interactive stuff which is really just for kids, but I went with a bunch of post grad students, so we managed to enjoy taking on the identity of a spy and climbing through air vents and such... More interesting for normal people is the history of spying section which describes how spying has been used through the ages going back into antiquity, along with some excellent stuff on WWII and Cold war spies.

Abraham Lincoln MemorialBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Lincoln Memorial"

See giant-robo-Lincoln sit in his huge Greek temple. This is a truly impressive monument and should not be missed. Lincoln's best-known speeches are chiseled into the walls and the great man himself stares down at you from his lofty throne. There's a small shop (turn right when you enter the monument) selling books and a some souvenirs.

Attraction | "World War II Memorial & Reflecting Pool"

Memorial to soldiers from both sides of the Atlantic who died in WWII. An impressive monument. From there, stroll the length of the reflecting pool to the Lincoln memorial. The monuments are all set in a pleasant park full of squirrels, very nice for a walk or a jog.

I don't if they let people in on tours anymore, but you certainly can't just show up and get a tour. Still, you've got to at least take a walk around and see the outside...
