The indoor/outdoor pool turned out to be an outdoor pool with a greenhouse-type enclosure. The pool room was warm enough, but the water was freezing, so the kids had a short dip. The pool was 6 feet deep at the deep end. Towels for the pool are available at the front desk.We got a room with two queen-size beds. There was plenty of room for a play pen for the baby. We were on the third floor, and there was a small balcony on the room. The bathroom was kind of odd. There were two sinks, one inside and one outside of the bathroom. The toilet was also a bit strange, with a push-in "flusher."There were also two closets, one behind the door (with an in-room safe), the other bes...Read More

We stopped at the Comfort Inn in Porstmouth as our last chance for do-it-yourself waffles of our vacation. We looked it up in our handy Choice Hotels book and discovered it was on our way, on the outside of Portsmouth and it had a pool. There were lots of road signs pointing the way, which we always find quite helpful. We were told the price was going to be $139 per night, but Mom said that "Gee, that's a lot more than any of the other Comfort Inn's we've stayed at the last few days". That convinced them to give us the 'frequent traveller rate' of $119 instead. They explained the price difference by saying they were close to the ocean (which did not mean that we were even within view of the sho...Read More

The Dr. Seuss Memorial Sculpture Garden is just what it sounds like. It is a garden, with several sculptures of Dr. Seuss characters, and one of Dr. Seuss (Theodore Giesel) himself. The garden is in the quad surrounded by museums in Springfield. We had a few problems finding it because of a no left turn sign. Once we got past that, we were fine. There is a large free parking lot, that we discovered after we'd parked at a pay meter, of course. Oh well, it wasn't that much and we used up some dimes to pay for it. On the way to the garden, we stopped at the gift shop, where you purchase tickets for the museums. They had a lot of Dr. Seuss stuff but none of it was at a great price. We decided to sk...Read More

Yankee Candle Flagship Store

We thought this sounded like an interesting stop on the trip. The website said that you could learn about candle making and dip your own candles. It was on the way, so we decided to give it a go. The Yankee Candle store is like a shopping mall. There are several specialty shops set up throughout the store, and you can wander about in there for hours. We entered through the museum. It had the history of candlemaking. There were beeswax candles, candlemaking tools, etc. There were supposed to be demonstrations (and there were benches to sit on to watch them), but there were none the day we were there. From there you wander into the largest candle shop I've ever seen. There are hundreds of differ...Read More

Wonder Mountain Family Fun Center is located on Route 1 in Moody Maine. Route 1 has a plethora of tourist trap type things, outlet stores, mini golf, etc. We fell into the trap, but it wasn't too darn awful. We were driving north, heading for the ferry back home when we came across a mini golf course with a waterfall in the middle of it. It was a nice day, and we decided getting some fresh air and exercise was a good plan.Wonder Mountain has a large indoor arcade, with lots of typical arcade games, skeeball, video games etc. It was pretty much closed up for the season (it was after Labor Day after all), but the building was still open to allow customers access to the restrooms.O...Read More
