Kuching is the capital of Sarawak which is the biggest state in Malaysia. Its located on the east of Malaysia. Geographically, its part of the Borneo island in Asia.
More tourist would prefer backpacking or exploring on foot. Its what we call, walking through the history. Many of the old structures or buildings are still around and well maintained. You will be able to see European, Chinese, local and natives structures all over the city. Some of the buildings are constructed in the 1600.
Places you shouldn't miss is the Kuching City Waterfront, Main Bazaar, Carpenter Street, India Street, Padungan China Town, Sarawak Museum and the Satok Sunday Market.
On the regional side of Kuching, you can visit the crocodile farm, Wind cave, Fairy cave, Semmenggoh wildlife sanctuary and whole lot more.
Quick Tips:
The best time to visit Kuching is probably during mid year. June, July, August, September. Most events and festival fall on that month. Events such as Rainforest World Music Festival, Gawai, Independence day celebration, Mooncake Festival, Regatta and many more.
January and February is probably not a very good time to visit Kuching. The Chinese New year is around beginning of the year. People will be very busy working trying to make profit before the Chinese New Year. During the festival, most business will be closed for about a week. Some will go back to their home town. The roads and street will be very quiet as most people will stay at home or visiting close relatives and friends. Also during this time, its always raining heavily and may cause flash flood at some low land area in the city.
Best Way To Get Around:
The public transportation still need a lot of improvement. Don't even think about using the bus, you won't know where the bus are going next. Only the locals who take bus frequently will know.
Taxi can be an option but its rather limited. You can only find taxi at the airport and the taxi stand near to the wet market.
