A January 2000 trip
to St. Lucia by Linda Hoernke
Quote: Located in the West Indies, St. Lucia became a member of the Commonwealth in 1979 after a long history of rule under the French and Bristish. It is best known for the Pitons or twin mountain peaks rising sharply from the shoreline to form the Eastern Caribbeans most distinctive landmark.
Sounds like a romantic tropical place to stay? It wasn''t. This all inclusive hotel catered to families and although I love children, my idea to spend an evening dining on fine food and drinking good wine lost its ambiance with the crying of children. Try dancing on the dance floor and not step on one of the little ones. I felt it was not a place for children.
The included food in the buffets was very good but much of the same each day. I could have went for more variety. The rooms were comfortable and clean.

Back on thc catamaran, we sailed to Marigot Bay--a sheltered bay bordered bygreen hills and palm fringed beaches. The harbor is so deep that it is said that at one time a whole British fleet hid from the French by docking their ships here and covering them with coconut palms. Movie makers have also used this place for filming such movies like Dr. Doolittle and Superman 11. The sail back caught the the sun going down over the water, changing the sky from light pink to lilac and crimson. The cliffs in the distance caught the dwindling light, separating the rock with streaks of gold and orange.
