Everyone knows what Boston is famous for. Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston College, Boston University, Red Sox's Fenway Park, Harvard Square, Copley, Quincy Market, Boston Harboretc. Besides that the other highlights are the Prudential building, Trinity Church, bars and restaurants along Copley, young crowd of college students, Boston Common, Downtown Boston, China Town, Charles River, Memorial Drive, Cruises, whale-watching, Duck tours and not to mention, one of the oldest train systems in the US.
Quick Tips:
We drove from New York to Boston in 4 hours and 30 minutes. Drive was pretty cool and we got to see other cities like New Haven, Hartford, Stamford, Bridgeport, etc on the way. And if you are driving around this time in October, you will get to see the beauty of fall colors. Be prepared to pay a lot of toll on turnpikes and expensive NYC bridges and tunnels.
Ducktour is one of the best ways to get around Boston on land as well as water but it will cost you a head. I think it is too much for an hour and half tour.
Quincy market is everyone's favorite spot in Boston. Lots of activities such as magic shows, street dances, jugglers, musicians, etc., happen there. Horse carriage riding, shopping, etc., are other things you get to do around Quincy Market.
Evening hours in Harvard University and Harvard Square are fun. Don't forget to rub John Harvard's shoe while you are posing for the photograph with him. And also you need to visit the Harvard's Science and Technology center to see the world's first calculator.
Walk along the Copley to experience Boston's famous bars and restaurant and landmarks like Trinity Church and Prudential Building.
Whale-watching is one of the main attractions of Boston. You can get those cruises from Boston Harbor which is just 5 minutes walk from Quincy Market. Aquarium and IMax theatre are also located at the harbor.Best Way To Get Around:
Boston is a nice and small city. There are trains and buses running 24/7. Most of the places are accessible by trains and buses. So my bet is, trains and buses are the best way to get around Boston. Cabs are also available everywhere and I think they are more reasonable than the NYC cabs. Having your own car is also nice and easy to get around. But then it is difficult to find parking and pay parkings are pretty expensive. It would be nice to drive along the Memorial Drive in your own car.
