Wind Cave
Wind Cave is about 115km drive from Kuching city where you can reach in an hour or less. It's one of the popular tourist destination in Sarawak. To be exact, Wind Cave is located in Bau township.

If you manage to visit the cave on certain days, then you will find out the story behind the name of the cave. You will hear ghouly echo sound as the wind blows through the hollow cave. The place is usually quite windy, there is stream of river behind the cave.

As for entrance fee, adult will cost RM3.00 per person and RM1.50 for students/senior citizens/disabled. Children below 6 years old are allowed free entrance.

An important note, the exit is the same as where you come from. The route inside the cave is basically a big circle with forked routes to dead-end. When you're inside, you mustn't miss the ladder to move up to higher ground of the cave. You will experience a breath-taking panaromic sight from there.

If you walk to the end of the cave, you can hear sounds of water streams. Just follow the light. It's brighter at the end.

Quick Tips:

As you walk along, you can find bird nest and lots of bats! Lots of them. Do not point your flash light directly at them to avoid them from scattering flying around in the cave that may cause panic to other travellers. The handle bar on the wooden platform are full of bat droppings, so I suggest you don't hold on to the bar though it's slippery inside.

Before you even set off to the cave, there are certain things you need to bring. The most important thing is flash light. Do bring the LED type of flash light where it's more powerful. If you forgot to bring your flash light, the guard will rent it to you for RM3.00, and it's not a very good one.

Those who suffered from achluophobia (fear of darkness) should not go into the cave. If you're into photography, do bring a tripod. It's impossible to take pictures inside without a proper balance. There are little rays of sunlight shining through tiny holes of the cave's rocks.

As for outfit, it's going to be pretty wet inside and the wooden planks will be slippery. So I think any sneakers or sport shoes would be helpful. There are water drips at some point, you might take note of it.  Do not worry about getting lost. There have a route map inside the cave as you move along. It's almost pitch black inside so again a flash light is a must.

Best Way To Get Around:

Two options, rent a car or join a day tour at local agencies. Personal day tour cost around RM100.00 per trip. It's a good idea to drive too, there are other tourist spots around the place where you may want to explore. You can get a free copy of tourist map at the Sarawak Tourism Board office at Kuching City or just Google for "Catscity Kuching Regional Map".
