Zoo El Pantanal is a small privately-run zoo 23 kilometers out of Guayaquil, on the banks of the river Daule. It was originally an Animal Rehabilitation Center, but for the last four years it has been open to the public. It has over 200 animals, most of which are native to Ecuador. A guided tour is included in the price, both in Spanish and English. El Pantanal is quite simply the best zoo in Guayas Province, and easily one of the best in Ecuador.
Quick Tips:
The entry price is for adults, and for children, guides included. Bring a bit of spare cash, as there is a relatively cheap kiosk in a lovely cool area of the zoo. Allow about an hour and a half for the tour, and probably about the same for the return bus trip.Best Way To Get Around:
Take bus number 9 from the Terminal Terrestre, and ask the bus driver to stop at El Pantanal. It is located about 2 kilometers after the Country Club, which is on your left, about 23 kilometers out of GYE. El Pantanal is one your right. To return to Guayaquil simply flag down any of the colourful inter-provincial buses, all of which go to the Terminal.
