I was lucky enough to be stationed at the Defense Language Institute on the Presidio of Monterey, CA, a few years ago. It was pretty close to heaven on earth living in such a beautiful setting, and for our Christmas gift last year, my husband and I went back for a visit. Although a few things had changed, it was still the wonderful place I remembered. I firmly believe that the Monterey Peninsula is a must-do destination for everyone who loves the ocean.Quick Tips: Lighthouse Avenue is fun for shopping and eating - it's touristy without being overly so. When I was a student at DLI, my favorite place to eat when the mess hall fare was questionable was Compagno's Deli, just a few blocks away from campus. The place was friendly and inexpensive, and served the most amazing deli sandwiches.
