Week Long Trip to Jin Gang Shan

A July 2006 trip to Jinan by chinadoll724

Wow... this trip is actually for Jin Gang Shan, about 2 hours by car from Jian, and it was beyond amazing. This was the place the Chinese Communist party started, but the scenery was stunning.

The waterfall and bamboo studded mountains are absolutely stunning. It was a great mix of the historical (Mao's old residences) and the natural (waterfalls in the shape of fairies). Definitely get a tour guide to get a better picture of the rich history.

Quick Tips:

Tour guides aren't expensive-as low as 100 RMB () a day, but get a good one. There's a local grocery store and small shops for buying specialties. The candied flowers and berries are fun and delicious. They should run you about 5-8 RMB for 250g.

Best Way To Get Around:

A few large cars take us around, but it'd probably be better to go with a tour group. For the more adventurous, take a bus. It's a single ticket for all the scenic areas.
There were a few places we ate at, but the vegetables were picked fresh that day and the meat was chosen when we got there. There are plenty of local specialties, so if you're adventurous, this is perfect. You can have swan, ground rats, wild boar, wild local deer, or more traditional meats such as chicken and duck. Everything is really spicy, so make sure you let them know your preferences.
