My husband and I went on an anniversary trip to the Bristol Harbour Resort in Canandaigua, NY. The resort was sort of on Canandaigua Lake and our room overlooked the lake.

We went to the Bristol Harbour Resort for 2 days for our anniversary. The pool was dirty both days we were there. Also, the hot tub was broken. The resort is not right on the lake, it overlooks the lake. The beach/marina was accessed by driving down the road and taking an elevator. It was nice to walk around there when nobody was there in the evening. We had thought the beach was right at the resort and did not realize it was down the street. The view of the lake was okay. We did enjoy an amazing thunder & lightening storm one night that we watched from our balcony.

We had a king sized bed in our room. They gave us three pillows, and all of them were horrible. Both days my husband and I woke up with stiff necks. The shower drain was clogged with soap from another guest and several inches of water collected when you would shower. The housekeepers were really nice though. Very cheerful and polite.

The room is decorated in a lodge theme. It was interesting and different. The fireplace looked really nice but we didn't use it since it was July.

It was nice to go out on the balcony and sit and look at the lake. The bottle of wine the resort provided was nice. We did not play golf but it looked like a nice course for those who do.

I was not impressed and would not go back.

Part of our package at the resort included dinner and breakfast one day. Both times, we ate outside overlooking the lake. The view was amazing! However, we were extremely disappointed in the food. My husband ordered ribs and there was barely any meat on the bones. I ordered boneless chicken wings from the bar which were OK. We both ordered dessert (Peanut Butter Pie) and it was scrumptious! Since we had leftover money for the dinner package we ordered 2 Chocolate Confusion Torte, which we ate for breakfast the next day. It tasted very good and it was very rich.

There was one day when we ate breakfast in the restaurant as well. My husband seemed to enjoy his breakfast of an omelet. I had a Belgian waffle which was OK. Also, I ordered a side of home fries. They were brought out after we received our food because they needed to cook some. The home fries were nasty!! They looked like potatoes with the skin removed that had been boiled. The potatoes were hard on the inside and obviously were undercooked.

Overall, I was just not impressed with the dining there. (except for the desserts!)

Wine Tasting

Activity

We visited Widmer Winery in Naples, NY. It was about a 20-minute drive from the Bristol Harbour Resort in Canandaigua. The tour was fabulous. There were many photo opportunities. We paid $4 a person for the tour, but you got $2 off a bottle of wine after the tour.

There were only four other people on the tour (we went on the 3pm tour on a Sunday). That was nice because we didn't feel crammed into spaces. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about wine making and the winery. She didn't sound like she was reading from a tour book which was nice.

I liked the wine tasting. They let you taste the wines that you wanted to taste. At other wineries I've been to, they pour the same wines for everyone. They really catered to your person taste. Everyone was really nice and really friendly. Since it was our anniversary, they opened up a bottle of champagne and everyone toasted us.

I thought it was interesting how they explained the process for making kosher wine at their winery. I'd definitely go back again!
