Cabo Polonio is a beautiful beach that you can only reach after a 30-minute trip through the dunes. The place is easy to find because hundreds of years ago it was necessary to build a lighthouse to avoid ships to crash into the rocks. The lighthouse called the attention of many fishermen that settle down and created the town surrounding it.
The town is divided by the lighthouse in two beaches the “North” and “South.” I've stayed in a little cottage in the South beach. Cottages are all along the seaside, yes! In the beach! They don't have neither water nor electricity; at night the only light is the moonlight unless you have taken with you some candles. Regarding to water you have two options, you can use water from the sea or take some from huge holes that are next to each cottage. Forget about drinking it, you just use it to wash dishes or to the toilet.
In the North beach you can see breathtaking sunsets enjoying delightful drinks or if you prefer you can go to the rocks, where the lighthouse is, and enjoy the scenery of hundreds of sea wolves lying on the rocks. Summer time is when sea wolves come to the coast to fish.
Cabo Polonio is a place to be visited just in summer because of obvious reasons (no water or electricity), but is the perfect place to learn how important are daily things in life such as having a warm bath, switching on a light or watching T.V.
And to finish, think for a moment, have you imagined your life without a telephone? Because in Cabo Polonio there's no telephone and mobile phones don't work because you are in the middle of nowhere.
Quick Tips:
It's not easy to get to Cabo Polonio because even though it is a tourist place there's no much information available on how to get a cottage there. You can Google “Cabo Polonio” and you will find some useful links.
Just a quick tip, look for a cottage in the South beach because they are cheaper than the North ones.
If you are worry about where to eat or where to buy your supplies, don't be so. There are three grocers and many little places you can stop by for some fast food.
Best Way To Get Around:
You have many options to get to the entrance of Cabo Polonio: by car, by bus, etc. However, you have just one option to get to the town itself: by jeep. But it is not any jeep, is a rented one. There’s a jeep service at the entrance that paying a very low fee (US 2) takes you to the town trough the dunes. You will really enjoy it!
