Twyfelfontein, 105 km west of Khorixas, is without doubt the most significant rock-engraving site in Namibia. Nearly 2500 engravings have been recorded at 17 main sites which one third portray animals (including seals!). Especially interesting are large images of elephant, rhino and lion with spoor instead of paws. Shady campsites are available at the Aba Huab River campsite, 9 km from Twyfelfontein.
South of Twyfelfontein is the desolate landscape of the Burnt Mountain, its shale and basalt vividly colored as if burnt in an inferno.
