A drive down Natchez Trace Parkway, Puckett's Grocery, the county fair, downtown Franklin, Franklin's old 1936 movie theater.

Quick Tips:

Starting August, every weekend hosts a county fair, craft fair, art show, or picnic event. You can feel the change of seasons here in Nashville...come during late fall to visit... it's absolutely gorgeous!

Best Way To Get Around:

Public transportation is ok, they have a rail system that should be in operation come next Spring. A horse and carriage ride through downtown at night for a view of nightlife is great, especially during the fall when it gets cooler.

San Antonio Taco Co.

Restaurant | "San Antonio Taco Company"

Oh man, where else can you order tacos and beer and eat on a patio overlooking a busy college area. Once you enter the restaurant, you pick up a menu and circle what items you want, or which toppings you'd like. The queso dip is really good... very addicting! This place gets real crowded during lunch hours with college students and the hospital staff.

Food here is quick, and great tasting, a novel idea to be open until whenever... and serve beer with tacos where thousands of college students raid the streets.

Dalt's

Restaurant | "Dalts"

Dalts has a diner atmosphere in a restaurant setting. Great soups, especially chicken tortilla, and great appetizers. Mozz sticks, which I try everywhere are pretty good. The menu boasts anything for any appetite from home-cooked types of foods (meatloaf, roasted chicken) to quesadillas, wraps, pizzas, pork chops...

Prices are pretty reasonable, but service is just so-so. It's not a very upbeat bunch of servers, but the food is pretty good. If you're around White Bridge road, stop in for a good meal. I haven't had a bad meal once, so the service doesn't keep me from coming back.

I visited the mansion for the first time last Halloween. They hosted a haunted walking tour of the property and told "real stories of the murders and the deaths of the family members who lived in the mansion. Though it's a little cheesy, it puts you in the Halloween spirit. Heads up, they prefer if children over the age of 12. The tour is better when quiet. If anything, the rituals the family had in the 1800's when a family member died is very intriguing. The history radiates from the plantation and is a great visit for history buffs. Andrew Jackson was a frequent visitor, among other famous politicians. The tour includes cookies, hot chocolate, and a few snacks.

The park was dedicated during the bicentennial celebration in Nashville and is overlooked by the capitol. The view from the capitol is gorgeous, probably the best in the view in the city. A perfect place for a romantic picnic on a nice day. Take at least an hour to walk around the park and read the history behind the time capsule, the war memorial, and to read the history of the volunteers from TN who went to war for this country. Explains the reason why TN is the volunteer state. The farmers market is within walking distance and shares a parking lot with the park.
