Honeymooning in Nevis & St. Kitts

A December 2000 trip to St. Kitts by solace

Nevis's name comes from the spanish term for snow. Christopher Columbus came up with the name because the dormant volcanic peak on Nevis is always cloud covered. This doesn't impead on sunning yourself. It is never too hot or too cold but always moderate.

On Nevis we enjoyed local flavor at Jamaicies. The people are friendly and you are always welcome to an extra serving of King Fish. It is a must to take a catamaran trip on the Spirit of St. Kitt's. Finally, the art work of Kate Spencer is a must see in Bassettere.

Quick Tips:

Must visit The Golden Lemon inn at Deppe Bay on St. Kitts. They have lovely and affordable accomodations and the food is remarkable. Finally you must visit the old sugar mills on Nevis.

Best Way To Get Around:

If you are visiting Nevis from St. Kitts it is highly recommended to take the 6 minute flight on the Nevis Express. The plane may look a little shaky but it is a wonderful experience. Rent your own car on Nevis. On St. Kitts you can cab it all over without hassle.
The rooms are actually little cottages with your own mini fridge, hammock, back porch overlooking the ocean and large bedroom. The only warning is that the bathroom is connected to the bedroom and there is NO door. Travel with people you are very comfortable with. There is plenty of closet space and room controlled air conditioning. The perfect place for a getaway. Breakfast is included on a few nights but not every night.

The rooms are marvelous. Each room is totally different from the next and uniquely decorated. The proprieters are antique collectors and provide exquisite care and service. The food is remarkable and the black sand beach is private. Solomon is the sole car service provider for the guests and is always available for rides and any local information.

You board the boat with several other couples and travel out to the snorkeling spot about 1 hour away under full sail. You then spend the afternoon snorkeling in the reef and lounging on the canopy. On the way you back you can enjoy rum punches and snacks as you liesurely return to dock.

A trip to the beach or through the rain forest on horseback is the best way to liven your senses before a day on the beach. Enjoy a 2 hour trek through local vegetation and don't forget your camera.
