In case I gave the impression that I am Ms. Snowboarder, sorry, it was time for my first lesson. Boy, did I learn a lot, but not about snowboarding. After that first day I spent the rest of the week recuperating, mostly by eating my way through town at various restaurants.Quick Tips: Always be aware of the crowds. If you don't like them and you are just interested in skiing or snowboarding without a mob, go up during the week. Or, if you're young and want to be part of the scene, go up for one of the many weekend events staged in Big Bear at Snow Summit or Bear Mountain (the two ski/snowboard places we visited).Best Way To Get Around: I've been going to Big Bear and...Read More

First of all, this was a timeshare for us, so we only paid the timeshare owner price of $70 per night. The place also serves as a regular lodge for anyone. Without discounts, a one-bedroom runs $120 a night, during the week, or $180 for a weekend night. A two-bedroom runs $55 more per night. Anyway, the place was nice. We requested, and got, a lake view on the uppermost level - the third story - very nice. It had a kitchen, fireplace, a television in both the living room and bedroom, and all linens and towels were included. Okay, there was a bad part that I was told was consistent with past visits, no matter which room they stayed in throughout the lodge. My fold-out bed...Read More

Excellent pizza Dude! Small and comfortable on one of the main roads, this place is great. The pizza is the best with that wonderful sauce that tastes like it has alot of time, care and ingredients put into it. I think I tasted the slightest bit of licorice mixed into this rich tomato sauce. Anyway, they have all the sandwiches (meatball, sausage, turkey, roast beef, pastrami, ham, provolone and vegetarian) and all the pastas (spaghetti, ravioli, lasagna and manicotti) as well. Pastas are as incredible as the pizza, and they cost only $5.00 to $7.50 each. This is a family place and there is a front area where all the little kids were playing computer and video games while ...Read More

Okay, this place, as the picture will show, is a little different. It is one of those coffee drive-thrus with Cappuccino, Expresso, Smoothies and Bagels, but it also serves BBQ ribs, BBQ beef and hot dogs - and everything is out of this world delicious!

For $5.99 each you can get a BBQ Beef Sandwich or Pork Rib Platter that includes beans and tortillas and, if I remember correctly, coleslaw. This is made outside on a barbeque right beside the drive-up hut, even in the snow!

The BBQ was so good my friend (a girl) ate an entire Beef Sandwich in under two minutes!

I tried to get to this restaurant the enitre trip but, as will happen when on a trip with others, sometimes you never get around to doing what you want to do. As such, I know everything about the place but I didn't get to go! They claim to have Big Bear's finest Steaks, BBQ Ribs and Chicken but what I wanted was the Spuds! They claim to have the biggest ones there and I love potatoes! They also have NTN Trivia Games, another thing that I love! They are those little computer boxes you can have at your table that let you play trivia while you eat. At the same time there are other people with little boxes on their table competing with you via questions posted up on TVs all over the ro...Read More

This is where you would go to be seen. Most of the young twenty-something snowboard events are staged here and the many patios, bars and eating areas accommodate this plus the place is huge. Skiers seem to have their own part of the mountain, so skiing hasn't yet been phased out completely. It differs on the bar patios where the older guy skiers, who are used to cruising the place, are figuring out that "ski bunnies" no longer exist. All the young girls now snowboard. These old guys stick out like dinosaurs in their ski clothes which differ greatly from the snowboarding outfits of the young hotties. They, very obviously, look old and dated. Suddenly, their ski persona is working a...Read More

I took my snowboarding lesson at Bear Mountain and I had an Entertainment coupon so, instead of paying over $50, I got half off and paid under $50. I got a lesson/equipment/lift package that would ensure I could practice all day after learning the basics in class. Even though the holiday weekend crowds were long gone, the classes were still full of potential snowboarders (there were only three people in attendance for ski lessons). I was part of a mass group of well over 75 people who were being taught at once. This wasn't ideal and, in fact, my friend's little daughter got so disgusted from the lack of attention, she just walked off and my friend got her money back. I stuck with it...Read More
