A December 1996 trip
to Vatican City by DrMaximus
Quote: No amount of pictures can prepare you for the magnificence and glory of this hugely astounding little "city".
You must visit the Sistine Chapel, so please make sure it is open on the day you make your trip to the Vatican. In the great hall, look up the ceiling to view Michaelangelo's masterpiece of the painting of the Creation of the Earth.
(Insufficient space... continued under "Optional)
(2)Plan your visit to the Vatican well. Leave early and eat well before you head out. Food and drinks are very very expensive in and around the Vatican (about US for a can of coke, US for a gelato... so you can imagine the panini).
(3) Be advised that the Sistine Chapel is closed on three days of the week. It was open on 17 December 1996 (check out the day!) when I first went there, but was closed during my recent trip on a Friday.
(Continued from "Highlights")...On the Sixth day, God reached out to touch man, realise that the robes that flowed around Him and the angels were in the shape of an anatomically precise human brain to suggest aptly that He is the brain of it all. Also, look at the man's feet that it perpendicular to the ground... it actually pictures a female human body, complete with feet, torso and chest. Although headless, it is how the great painter chose to depict the fact that woman was first made by taking a bone out of a man! WOW! This is also one of the best places ot get yourself a guide... worth every lire.
