Nags Head is a pretty awesome beach. It is on the Outer Banks, and is near Corolla and Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills. It was tons of fun just to lie out on the beach, but also to hang out with locals. There is tons of stuff to do. We saw the big Kite Festival which takes place every year at Kitty Hawk (where the first plane flew). Shopping is cool, but it was best just to lie out in the sun. It was awesome that we actually had space to lie our stuff out and not worry about people tracking over it. The sand was great (not hard and super gritty like some beaches), and made for great skimboarding/wakeboarding and ultimate.Quick Tips: Bring a cooler so you can just chill on the beach all day wi...Read More

On our trip to Nags Head, a friend of a friend recommended us to stay at the Colonial Inn Motel. Although we weren't too excited to be staying at only a motel and not a huge hotel filled with many other people with whom we could party/chill with, we turned out to enjoy our trip even more because of where we stayed. The Colonial Inn Motel is a small one story complex with two buildings. It is locally owned and run. The owners were very nice to us, and even gave us a discount because we were referred to stay there. All the rooms at the Colonial Inn comprise of a closet, one large room with two beds and a sleeper sofa, a bathroom/shower and a small kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked,...Read More

Sooey's BBQ & Ribs

Restaurant | "Sooey's Barbeque"

Sooey's had some great barbecue. The restaurant is a small building off the main thoroughfare on the island and is easy to find/see. there is ample parking. The restaurant itself is small, and is more oriented to buying the food and then eating outside or taking it to the beach (and enjoying the sea breeze!). The food was awesome, and very inexpensive compared to some other local rates. It had really great barbecue, but also had a wide variety of food, including smoked/fried chicken, ribs and wings.

We stopped by Barefoot Bernies for several reasons, being it was pretty cheap, looked pretty good, and it had live music. We left completely full but not close to broke, entertained, and happy.Barefoot Bernies has a great selection of seafood and also regular items. There was plenty of seafood items to get, from fried flounder, to broiled salmon, to scallops to shrimp, and of course Atlantic Blue Crab and Lobster. The seafood was excellent. You could easily tell it was all fresh and good just right. A friend who doesn't really like seafood (don't ask, he's weird, just kiddin) got the pasta bolognese and he loved it. I would definitely recommend the spinach-artichoke dip, i...Read More

On the first night's stay at Nags Head, my group decided to eat at Western Sizzlin. Although the food at Western Sizzlin wasn't bad, the prices were a little inflated.Western Sizzlin is a steakhouse/buffet that also offers other entrees if you don't feel like coughing up $20 for the buffet (it has unlimited seafood). Although the prices weren't too steep for the other entrees and steak, most of us were really hungry, but didn't really want to pay $20 for dinner at Western Sizzlin. However, several of us bit the bullet, and paid. The buffet itself wasn't terrible, but it was a little lackluster. There was never enough seafood out (always seemed to be the pickings left at the end). T...Read More

Attraction | "Kitty Hawk Kite Festival"

The Kitty Hawk Kite festival is a pretty fun experience. It happens every year around July 12 to 14th, and takes place at the Wright Brother's memorial/museum in Kitty Hawk, on Kill Devil Hills. The entire event is free, but parking at the national park (the museum/memorial) is $6. What is great though, is that if the weather turns bad while you're at the park or if you feel bad and leave, you come back again without having to pay if you come within 2 weeks of paying for the parking (just present your parking ticket). There were a lot of kites at the festival, and there were also several activities, such as kite and air balloon making, mostly catered towards younger children. However...Read More
