Prague is one of Europe's most well-preserved and captivating cities -- steeped in history, architecture and magic.

The Charles Bridge (Karlovy Most) is considered by many to be the world's most beautiful...the architecture (undestroyed in either World War) is a magical mixture of history over the past centuries.

Quick Tips:

Wander the Charles Bridge at night...explore beautiful Hradcany Castle by day...stroll down the Golden Mile amongst medieval homes beside the castle for sublime city views of the red roof tops...and don't forget to savor the world's finest beer (Czech is the home of Pilsener, hailing from nearby Plzen).

Best Way To Get Around:

Efficient and inexpensive metro gets you easily around the city...efficient and abundant trams, as well...occassional problems with taxis, though if you make sure meter is set, SHOULD be very inexpensive...US goes along way in Central/Eastern Europe...

Old Town Square Apartment

Simple but comfortable, ideally located Czech apartment...inexpensive accommodations in private homes are still the way to go while Prague's hotel infrastructure has yet to catch up with it's tourism popularity...there are apartment rental companies both in the US and in Prague that arrange such stays as this, or for higher budget, the upscale Hotel Pariska (Paris) is idyllic and rich in old-world elegance and ideally located right at bottom of Vaclavske Namesti.

U Fleku

Busy, crowded but world-renowned and worth the wait for this historical 'brew pub,' though Prague is one of the world's great pub cities and merits wandering off the beaten track for tastes of what is counted by many as the world's finest beer, including hallmark brands Pilsener Urquell, Velkopopivicky, Staropramen...the standard Czech liquer, Becherovka, also merits a thorough taste test.

Prague Panoramas at Petrin Hill

Beautiful scenery and tranquil setting make it well worth the excursion to take a breather from the hustle and bustle of heavily touristy Prague. This lovely green oasis amidst the river boasts sublime views of the castle, the river and the town...as well as Vaclav Havel's house and there's a small restaurant/kavarna to toss back a pivo or it's all an ideal picnic spot.

Prague's Jewish Quarter (Josefov)

The emotional impact of the Old Jewish Cemetery and it's extensive, compacted gravestones (where some 100,000 were buried over the years), along with many of the remnants and children's artwork of those poor souls sent to nearby Teresienstadt concentration camp is a powerful experience that hopefully serves to remind us of an episode that should never have happened - but did.

The Globe Bookstore & Cafe

Prague's very famous expatriate hangout, The Globe has been dishing up fine food and a terrific selection of books in the 'Paris expatriates of the 20's' mold since the early 90's...when Prague was christened the 'Paris of the 90's' and filled with many aspirant Hemingway's, Fitzgerald's, Joyce's and Stein's. Worth the trip to connect with local expatriates or enjoy the food or fine book selection.
