Traveling Around Ireland

A June 2006 trip to Ireland by jonbarb709

To get to see what Ireland offers in 2 weeks is impossible. Dublin has so much, you need to spend extra time there. Cobh is a small village that is a must-see, as are Killarney and Galway.

Restaurant

Great food, great service, and great prices. The sausage was excellent. It's cheaper if you make the "early bird special." The wine list is nice and the prices were reasonable.

Restaurant

Off the beaten bath. A small intimate dining place. Just great. Small tables, and there is seating also upstairs. It was excellent: mussels were outstanding, prices were reasonable, and the service was excellent. (It's across from the theater on a side street.)

Attraction | "Mulligan Pub"

Mulligan's Pub - According to the tour book, it has the best Guinness in town, so we went and it was--cold and tasty. An old bar with great bartenders and great beer.

Attraction

Music on some nights. Soccer on TV - all the time there is game. Very vocal crowd. There is pub grub upstairs and at the bar. It's a great place to get the flavor of Ireland.

Attraction | "Doheny and Nesbitt's"

Big lunch crowd. The food was excellent, the service very fast. Prices were reasonable and the beer was cold. There were lots of places to sit and a couple of small rooms. It was a great place to mix with the locals.

Want to see a lot of "stuff" in a great city? Dublin is the place to visit. There is so much, it's hard to put it in any sequence, so I won't. Just go there and enjoy the town, the people and see as much as you can.

Trinity College - The Book of Kells, the cities most prized possession. Dated around AD800 by monks from the island of Iona of Scotland.

Temple Bar - It's not a bar, it's the part of the city that is the most active, with restaurants, pubs, shops, art, etc. Take a stroll through the area and you don't be disappointed.

The Natural Museum of Ireland and the Natural Gallery are two stops that should be included in your trip around Dublin.

Grafton Street - shop till you drop, street musicians, restaurants, pubs, department stores, cafes, and chocolate stores.

At Merton Square, across the street from the Mont Clare Hotel, is a park. In the park is a statute of Oscar Wilde sitting on a rock. It's a must-see, a check mark for "been there, done that."
