After paying the small entrance fee to Tulum, you walk up a trail to the top of a cliff, where you are rewarded with an incredible view of the Mayan ruins of Tulum and the amazingly turquoise ocean. The ruins themselves are not as extensive as some others in Mexico, but their location by the sea makes them very special. This was probably the most beautiful site I visited in Mexico, and one of the most beautiful places I have seen: the ruins and the flowers and the ocean. There was not an extensive museum or a big souvenir, postcard shop like at some tourist sites: Tulum is probably one of the most accessible yet not over-touristy sites in the Yucatan and is worth skipping a morning on the beach at Pla
