We had found Turkey exotic after the quick tour of Europe, but when we arrived in Syria it felt like we had landed in the middle of an exotic National Geographic photo. The horn is an integral part of driving in Syria and the subsequent chaos made it hard to hear what all the people were yelling at us. We finally made out that they were using some of the only English they knew: "Welcome, Syria". The people are amazingly hospitable and truly want you to enjoy their country. We stopped at a little shawarma/falafael stand in Aleppo, Syria. There were four of us and since we had the right currency, we decided to buy and square it up later. We each had a huge dripping shawarma with spicy meat, veggies wrapped in a warm pita. We each grabbed a can of pop and enjoyed our street meal. When we did all the calculations, we generously told our friends that the meal was on us...it came to $1.00 U.S. for everything for all four of us. Yep, $0.25/meal. Beat that!
