A group of us went to the Beta Club Convention in New Orleans a couple of months before the hurricane.

There is jazz on every corner at night.

Quick Tips:

Don't contribute to beggars on the street. Don't walk down Bourbon Street alone at night.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking is probably the safest bet if you're in the downtown area. There are also the two trolleys.

Mother's

Restaurant

Mother's has New Orleans foods. They had mostly sandwiches. I had a catfish poughboy. It was good, but it wasn't worth the $5 for half a sandwich. My friend's debris was interesting. It was basically scraps from the kitchen thrown together in rice. The dining area wasn't particularly clean, but it wasn't in danger of a health code violation either. The place is/was in walking distance of the Superdome.

Cafe du Monde

Restaurant

This is the place for the best coffee and beignets. The cafe au lait is their most popular coffee. It's coffee and steamed milk. The beignets are French donuts. They are hot and fresh at Cafe du Monde. Thinking about them is making me salivate right now. You can sit outside and admire the area while you sip your coffee and eat your donuts. Be careful though; powdered sugar is everywhere!

French Market

Activity

We went when the place was just about to close, so most of the shops were closed. We did however go to a food area. The coffee and chicory were quite popular.

The Superdome was huge! It was where the convention was held. We didn't even take up a fourth of it. There's a mall and several hotels connected to it. The place just made you feel tiny.

This place was so sad to walk through. The walls were kind of falling apart along the sides. There were some beautiful statues though. The place looked so white and pure for a place of death. Also the tour guide told us some stories of family tombs. The bodies were placed inside and as one body disintegrated, others died and were added. Also, deaths were celebrated. People would go out for picnics and try to celebrate the dead.
