My first trip to Vegas was back in 1999, and boy do I wish I could go back and do it all over again! I knew nothing about where to go or what to do. My cousin had a medical conference to attend at the Stardust...she didn't want to go alone for the 4-day trip, so she asked if I wanted to go. We stayed at the "Monte Carlo" hotel/casino. (it wasn't our choice...it was where her employer had booked us) When we got to our room, we were thrilled since we didn't know any better. We thought "We're in Vegas...who cares if we only have a view of the mountains!" (After 6 more trips to Vegas over the years, I've learned to be much more discerning when it comes to my room view) Live and learn, right? The h...Read More

For my first trip to Vegas (in '99), I stayed at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. My cousin was there for a medical conference, so I tagged along for the trip. Her company was paying for the hotel, so I figured why not? When we arrived at the the hotel, we immediately checked in and went to our room. The bellman escorted us (along with our luggage) and was really helpful. A good-looking young guy, he answered all of our questions about the city. Since it was my first time to Vegas, I had a million questions for him about where to go and what to do. He was really helpful and very friendly! The hotel itself is very nice. The room we stayed in was a basic standard room with two doub...Read More

Maybe it's because I'm from the East Coast, but I didn't care for the "New York-New York" hotel/casino. I've been to the real NYC a million times, and I'm not impressed with the real city, either. I'm more of a beach girl--if I'm on vacation, I don't want to stay at a resort that reminds me of being right back at home! That being said, if you are looking to experience a hotel with New York flavor, this may be the place for you! The main floor and lobby and are set up like the streets of New York: manhole covers line the floors and there are bagel shops and little food stands scattered about. It really does make you feel like you're in New York. We stayed in a standard room that fa...Read More

I love roller coasters, and I thought it would be fun to ride the coaster at the NY-NY hotel/casino. The "Manhattan Express" is a cool-looking ride because it wraps around the entire hotel. However, I didn't care for it too much...it was very rocky and my head kept banging off of the harness. When I got off of the ride, I had a dull headache. I went on the ride 2 years later thinking it would be different, but the same thing happened. The harness should be snug around your shoulders and head/neck area to avoid all the jostling around. I think I would have enjoyed the ride much more had my harness fit better.
