The Hotel Alpenhof is a very well appointed hotel which is centrally located and only a 3 minute walk from the train station (it is a rather steep walk though). The rooms are spacious and the breakfast buffet is delicious. One unique aspect is that almost everything they serve is organic and from their own farm. Ask for a room with a view onto the Eiger.

This is one of the classic hikes in the Bernese Oberland. The hike is moderate – strenuous and takes approx. 6 hrs. From Bachalpsee the path leads up to the oldest mountain hotel in Europe on the Faulhorn. From the Faulhorn the path hugs the mountain side and leads down to the Maenndlenen hut where they serve great “Gulaschsuppe” – a hearty s...Read More

The trip up to Jungfraujoch—top of Europe—is indeed a once in a lifetime experience. From Grindelwald the Wengenralp Railway (Switzerland’s longest cogwheel rail route) takes you along the North Face of the Eiger up to Kleine Scheidegg. There you change trains into the Jungfrau Railway and await transportation to Europe’s highest altitude railway station, Jungfraujoch. Along the way the train journey makes two stops at viewing platforms. The first gives you a fantastic view down to Grindelwald while the second stop offers a view of an awesome ice and snow landscape. Once you’ve reached the Jungfraujoch, a variety of activities await you. Relax in one of the restaurants, soak up the views from the ...Read More
