Fabulous Florida, the Sunshine State. We visited Florida many times (since 1993) and I still like it, time after time! It is a 9-hour flight from the The Netherlands, but that is easily forgotten when you’re stepping out of the airport. For example the tropical climate, it feels so good. You must know; The Netherlands can be cold and windy. The temperature is one reason I like Florida so much. About the weather, keep in mind that the hurricane season runs from June to November. That’s the reason we always go in May to Florida. The humidity is relatively low in this period. July and August are hot and sticky. Overall, Florida is a diverse state with sun, beaches, beautiful...Read More

Courtyard by Marriott Lake Buena Vista in The Marriott Village

Hotel | "Courtyard Orlando Lake Buena Vista in the Marriott Village"

Quote:
We’ve spend 3 nights at the Courtyard by Marriott; 1 night at the beginning of our holiday in Orlando and 2 nights at the end of our holiday. We had a late flight from New York to Orlando; it was 11:00pm before we got to the hotel. We didn’t have to search for a hotel, because we did book the Courtyard at home. I didn’t expect much of the hotel, but if I look back I must say we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is located at the Marriott Village at Vineland Avenue that houses two other hotels, which are The Fairfield Inn and Springhill Suites. This hotel is close to all major attractions, especially Magic Kingdown. (1 mile) There are plenty of restaurants and outlet malls ...Read More

Cafe Milano

After spending our day at the beach at the Sonesta Key Biscayne Resort, we decided to go to Miami Beach for dinner. Ocean Drive offers a wide variety of sidewalk café’s. They all have the food on a display, so it isn’t that difficult to choose from. After walking up and down Ocean Drive searching for a nice restaurant, we ended up at Caffe Milano. In order to attract as many people as possible to fill their terrace, many restaurants offer everything on the menu for half price. As soon as there is enough people on the terrace they take away the 50% discount sign. A full restaurant attracts more people because they believe it is a hot spot or just a good place to eat. It’s great to d...Read More

Monday morning, our last day in Miami. Normally we have breakfast in our hotel, but since this was our last day in Miami we decided to go to Miami Beach to have breakfast. We didn’t know what and where we wanted to eat. We walked along the restaurants to see what they had to offer. We ended up at a restaurant called Fox Café. The restaurant offers breakfast for only $4.95, a fixed price for all items on the menu, although drinks are excluded. We thought for that price the choice would be limited, but we were wrong. The menu offers a large array of choices. It didn’t take too long to make a decision. I ordered the salmon and some fresh squeezed orange juice and John ordered scrambled eggs wit...Read More

Beach House Restaurant

Several years ago, we had dinner in a restaurant on the beach with a great ambiance. We did not remember which restaurant it was—until last year. We drove around after our stay in Sarasota. We were hungry and looking for a nice restaurant to have lunch. While driving along the beach we saw a restaurant called the Beach House. The front of the restaurant was not that spectacular, but anyway we parked our car and decided to take a look. Behind the restaurant is a big terrace with a lot of tables and chairs, all with a view on the beach. This was not that bad after all. In fact, it looked familiar to us. We realized this was the restaurant that we visited a few years ago. With the palm trees, ...Read More

The Everglades is a natural swampland situated in the south west of Florida. It has been turned into a National Park, showing its beauty for everyone. There is one not to be missed; The Airboat Ride. We did take a tour on an airboat a few years ago. We had chosen Everglades Safari park to take the ride. A professional tour guide takes you through the swamp and beautiful flora and fauna of the Everglades. The airboat ride is spectacular. During this ride you’ll see many alligators, beautiful nature, and you’ll see breathtaking panoramic views. After the boat tour, you can watch the Alligator & Wildlife Nature Show. See how they are wrestling with an alligator. After the show you can...Read More

Impressive! Photo, Florida, United States

All the cities where go come are great, but let us not forget the road to those places. Look around you (not that much when driving…) and see the most unusual things. While driving from Homestead to Key West we saw a group (at least ten) of vultures sitting next to the road and at a tree. Before we knew it, we were past by, so we decided to turn our car and go back to watch the vultures. They were huge! So many, that must have a reason. The reason was a dead alligator along the road. It was fine dining for the birds. This is nature at his best. (Not for the alligator, he was properly wounded by a car and died.) This is only one example of what we saw during driving f...Read More

Story/Tip

Magic Kingdom; Cinderella's Castle Photo, Orlando, Florida
Quote:
We had one last day in Orlando and we were discussing what to do. We did a lot of shopping during our vacation and we didn’t want to go to another shopping mall. We decided to go to an amusement park, but which one? We had been coming to Florida since 1993 and we had visited all the parks in Orlando. After some thinking, we had two options left; Seaworld and the Magic Kingdom. I don’t know why, but the Magic Kingdom was the park we had chosen. After paying the parking fee, we were driving to the parking lot. The parking staff helped everybody to their spot. From here, a tram takes you to the monorail or the ferry. They both take you to the entrance of the Magic Kingdom. We prefer the monor...Read More
Yellow crab at Lido Beach Photo, Sarasota, Florida
Quote:
Beach for us means sand, sea, sunshine, and relaxing. The beach is also a habitat for many animals; we must respect the beach and protect the animals. We saw this Yellow Crab at the beach of the Helmsley Sandcastle in Sarasota (Lido Beach). During the day, when the sun is too hot, a crab hides itself in the sand or shadow. If a crab is in the sun too long he won’t survive and die. When you see a crab or other animal; don’t touch it and leave the crab alone! We must keep the beach clean. So many people enjoy a day at the beach. At the end of the day, they leave their trash behind. Is it too much to ask to clean up? It’s a shame to see all the trash, like plastic cups, newspapers, food, on the beach...Read More
