Before a chance meeting with a native of this amazing island, we'd never even heard of Dominica. Her descriptions of an unspoiled paradise with a new waterfall for each day of the year, hidden hot springs, and a cloud rainforest prompted us to take an impromptu trip to see just what this island was all about. Dominica did not disappoint, we found paradise and more.Quick Tips: Give yourself plenty of time to get to Dominica. Travel there requires a stop at a nearby, more popular island, such as Antigua, and then transfer to a smaller plane. Don't forget your hiking shoes and lots of bug spray. Dominica has some amazing waterfalls and natural wonders, such as boiling lake, but getting there usu...Read More

Beau Rive was an amazing find! The proprietor, Mark Steele, took years to build this small paradise. It's an amazing, civilized escape in this overall wild island. The rooms were lovely and breezy and all of the rooms have ocean views. The food was AMAZING! Mark uses many of his own recipes, which he invents using local produce. There is even a piano and a lovely pool. We will definitely stay with Mark again next time we visit Dominica and recommend this amazing place to everyone. One tip—do NOT leave the light on in the room when you leave. Dominica is loaded with strange and interesting bugs!!!

Boiling Lake is an amazing natural wonder and, as we were told, one of only two such wonders in the world (the other in New Zealand). It's a lake inside the crater of a volcano. Boiling Lake is a very difficult hike, so don't go if you are not in decent shape. Also, go with someone who knows the way well. If you stay at Beau Rive, Mark Steele can recommend someone to go with you. Otherwise, you can get a guide when you get to the usual launching point--Laudat. It's best to go with someone that can tell you about the amazing local flora a fauna, including many species that exist only on Dominica. On the way to Boiling Lake, you will cross the valley of desolation and can see fissures of ho...Read More
