Eating jerk chicken, being offered pot just about everywhere, and sunbathing for hours on end. Of course, getting married on the beach for a fraction of the price of NYC wedding.Jamaica really is a beautiful place, but off of the resorts most people live a pretty hard life. Most resorts are like walled up installations where it's hard to get in or out of a resort unless you are a guest or an employee. You can buy pot just about anywhere, including guys that will bring it to you on surf boards on the beach. (FYI—it's pretty crappy stuff, and bargain hard!)Quick Tips: Bring cash from home, ATMs are in short supply in Jamaica, and you'll need small bills if you plan on leaving the reso...Read More

Sandal's Ochos Rios is a long drive from the airport in Montego Bay, luckily the bus picked is up from our first resort Sandal's Montego Bay at no extra charge. The drive is actually very nice since the roads all run along the water. The roads are a bit bumpy and after it rains there are parts of the road that are heavily flooded, so expect delays if it has just rained. The resort is huge, divided up into two parts, the Riveria side and the Manor side, or the beach side and the pool side. You'll actually need to take a shuttle bus from one side of the resort to the other. The cost was about $200 per night (they offer steep discounts for the off-season, the price during peak season is about $...Read More

Sandal's Montego Bay is basically across the street from the airport, but don't let that deter you from staying here. Sandal's has the best beach in Montego Bay, the water is warm, the sand is absolutely perfect, with no pebbles. This is probably one of Sandal's smaller and older resorts, but it's still really great. During my stay in Jamaica I stayed at Montego Bay for 3 nights and Ocho Rios for 5 nights. I got married at Ocho Rios, but I really regret not getting married at Montego Bay. They have a really great private gazebo on the beach for weddings. I paid about $300 a night for two people. Sandal's is all inclusive so you'll never have to take our your wallet. During our entire stay we...Read More

I got married at Sandal's Grand Ocho Rios in November of 2005. Many of the Caribbean resorts offer packages for weddings at deep discounts to get you to stay at their hotel. When I arrived in Jamaica, I stayed at Sandal's Montego Bay for 3 nights, and then transferred to Ocho Rios for another 5 nights. In order to get a free wedding, I had to stay at one resort for a minimum of 5 nights. I think they have recently changed this to 7 nights. If you are considering a wedding at Sandal's, you should be aware that your guests probably won't like the idea. There are massive restrictions. It's a couples resort, so they will have to find someone of the opposite sex to share a room with them. If they...Read More
