A September 2005 trip to Coban by Jane Diddly

I would like to help visitors here find the best in this town.

I would highly reccommend this place to those who prefer to pay a few dollars more for a vastly improved service. I paid Q130 or about $18 which is not dirt cheap, but it was cheaper than many other places in town. Where it gets more expensive is with more people because this hotel charges per person... So Q130 per person per night. The decor is really nice, there is a beautiful garden in the courtyard and the rooms have a lot of space. The bathrooms are really clean and it is a few blocks to down town. There is an orchid nursery around the corner, the Museum of Mayan Art down the street, and a Spanish school a few more blocks but all within walking distance. The down side is the restaurant which has horrible food. but there is a good restaurant at the hotel Casa Duranta which is only a few blocks away. (I didn't stay there because the rooms seem over priced, although very clean, quiet, and pretty... check them out at www.casaduranta.com).

Museo de Arte MayaBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

This is a tiny little museum but worth a visit. Entrance is Q10 per person. They have different Mayan artifacts such as pottery and even teeth - the Mayans used to put jade in their teeth.
