Davis is Paradise

An April 2006 trip to Davis by Jenavive

I lived in Davis for a few years while completing my bachelor's degree, and learned about what there is to do

Davis is the most bike-friendly town I have seen. I had a blast biking to school and back, as well as for short errands and family-fun while we lived there. Their bus system is also the best I've seen for a town of that size. The buses are nearly full each day and I loved seeing that. In the town I live in now, buses are almost always empty and it's a sad sight to see. Davis is so friendly, warm, and fun.

Restaurant | "Cafe Italia"

Great Italian food and great breakfasts. I always ate eggs, pancakes, bacon, and hashed browns. My husband loved their omelets. The desserts are also wonderful. Try the chocolate lasagna, people love it!

Picnic DayBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Free to the public and a great family event, picnic day is UC Davis' open house held every year in April. There is a large area with activities for children, daschund races, a wonderful parade complete with the cal-aggie marching band, and free grapevines given away while supplies last from the viticulture and enology department. The food is pricey on campus during the event-$4 for a hot dog and chips! During that day parking is free on the campus lots, so it evens out. If you bring your own lunch, it's completely free!

This past April the Humboldt state marching band was in the parade and they were a sight to see. It's worth a visit to see the parade and campus. The whole town of Davis seems to come out that day.

Davis Farmers MarketBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Farmer's Market"

Farmer's market takes place on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings, rain or shine, throughout the year. It's a great way to get some local produce, chat up friends, and relax. I loved taking my son there to play on the playground while I ate and listened to the live music playing, or to the water fountains that the kids all loved to splash in during those hot summer months in Davis. It's easy to bike there and everybody in town knows about it. They even sell cute little T-shirts that say Davis farmer's market" on them.
