I arrived at the Reno Hilton on Memorial Day May 29, 2006, and checked out at 10am the following day. I was in the area for work.I've been to the hotel before, so I'm quite familiar with it. It's located just a few blocks from the airport. The way I got there is off of I-395 and Glendale Avenue. I parked my utility van in the self parking and checked in. The week before, I had reserved a king-size bed, non-smoking room on the Hilton Family/Hilton Honors website for $59, which includes tax. I showed them my Reno Hilton players card, and they gave me a set of coupons for the hotel and its services. The lobby is predictably a casino, with the check-in/reservation counter along the wall. Steak House

The Steakhouse is located inside the Reno Hilton. I was a guest at the hotel and after a hard day of work, I decided to treat myself to a nice steak. The restaurant is located in the main Casino floor near a "food court" of other restaurants. I was seated rather quickly, since it was 8pm on Memorial Day, there were only a few couples dining. The decor is quite formal, with nice dark wood trim. The server poured my water out of a bottle. My waiter came over and handed me the menu along with a basket of several different types of warm bread. I decided I wanted the prime rib and a salad. The salad was a mixture of different types of greens with a tangy vinaigrette dressin...Read More

Chevys Fresh Mex

Chevy's Fresh Mex is a chain restaurant located inside the Reno Hilton, in the food court on the casino level. I went there for lunch.I was seated quite quickly, and there weren't too many people in the restaurant. It was Memorial Day and at 2pm, so either might explain the lack of people. The waiter came out shortly and took my drink order and gave me some chips and salsa. I looked over the menu and it was a typical Americanized Mexican restaurant menu. I chose the steak fajitas. The waiter did take several minutes longer than I would have liked to return with my drinks and take my order. After ordering, I noticed that the diners at another table also seemed to noti...Read More

Lindy's

Restaurant

Lindy's is located inside the Reno Hilton on the casino floor by the food court. Some refer to it as Lindy's Cafe or simply as the "coffee shop." Not to be confused with nearby Java Coast, which is an actual coffee shop.I was awake and looking for something to eat in the Reno Hilton at 6:30am. Nothing was open except for Java Coast and Lindy's. I wanted a real breakfast, so I chose Lindy's.Lindy's is quite small and probably only seats 60, between 14-16 tables. It's your basic diner with basic diner decor. The menu has pretty much whatever a Denny's would have on it, but a bit pricier. The menu had a fair amount of your breakfast staple dishes. I chose the Deuces Wild, which co...Read More

Johnny Rockets is located inside the Reno Hilton near the sports book area. I actually went to dine at Johnny Rockets on a previous visit around April 14, 2006. This time, I only stopped for a milkshake. My review will be of the April 2006 visit.I ate dinner at Johnny Rockets. It was only moderately busy. Johnny Rockets has a 1950s diner theme complete with jukebox. The staff is dressed in the 1950s style soda jerk(?) style with white apron, white paper hat and bow tie. A waiter greeted me and told me I could have any empty table. I chose a booth, complete with 1950s red vinyl upholstery, which had a view of the big screens in the sports book area.I had a turkey club sandwich w...Read More

The Claim Jumper is a popular restaurant chain with an 1800s gold mining theme. They are known for large portions and their decadent (and extremely huge) motherlode chocolate cake dessert. We visited the Claim Jumper off Virgina Street and Kietzke.I'm glad they have a Claim Jumper in Reno. The dining experience sure fits the feel of the town here in the Silver State. When we arrived for dinner, there was a fair wait, about 15-20 minutes for a table for 2. There is a dessert display at the front counter with various desserts and baked goods. They had huge muffins and biscuits for sale, as well as a huge chocolate eclair and the six layer Motherlode chocolate cake. Wow...that slice Motherlo...Read More

Romano's Macaroni Grill is a popular nationwide chain of Italian restaurants. The new location in Reno is on Virginia just south of McCarran in the Meadowood Mall. When we arrived on a Saturday evening, there were a large number of people waiting to be seated for dinner. Fortunately, we made reservations beforehand, so we were seated rather quickly. The decor in Macaroni Grill is a bit faux Tuscany, with colorful imitation Venetial plaster walls, rich hardwood wine racks, and an open kitchen design. The atmosphere here is designed to be a bit loud in order to give a feeling of busy excitement. There are conversations from the other diners, waiters singing, and hustle and bustle from the kitchen...Read More
