On a four country back-packing trip, Barcelona was my favorite stop. We stayed in an older part of the city right off Las Ramblas, with small rambling streets, great shops, and awesome graffiti. Quick Tips: Small local restaurants served awesome food and offered great conversation. I have been searching (unsuccessfully) for a replica of the amazing Paella ever since. Locals, especially in less touristy parts of Barcelona, were awesome despite the language barrier. In our rambling walking tours to and from our planned destinations, there were great little stores, restaurants, and scenes in this great city.Best Way To Get Around: Walk or take the subway. We walked to and from mo...Read More

The Center Ramblas offered us sort of clean beds in 10 person rooms with free lockers and a bathroom with three showers for an entire floor to share. The washing machines they promised were broken, as was the lock on our door (it was never fixed during our 4 day stay). However, the beds were cheap and they did accommodate our walk-in room requests. The view of the brick wall from the one window in the room was also great. The location of the hostel (right near the Boquira market and Las Ramblas was great) as was the price, but the broken room lock that took a gentle shove to open was awful. One night we were there we were the only two people staying in our 10 bed room and they refused to give us other...Read More

The only redeeming quality of our hostel was its proximity to this gorgeous market. During our stay we ate many inexpensive meals by relying on fresh baked goods, fruits, and cheeses we purchased from the market (some sort of pizza-like creation bought from a vendor along the wall was a highlight). There are also small bar-like counters, serving local specialities and seafood dishes to order. There were meat and fish vendors, as well as all sorts of exotic fruits, vegetables, eggs, pastries, and bread. Everything is fresh, and the market is filled with colorful characters and lively vendors. Go hungry and mingle with locals, shopping and bargaining for their groceries. The market is right of L...Read More

This interesting museum contains modern art from Barcelona and beyond. It is housed in a striking modern building designed by Richard Meier, that is an attraction unto itself. The open space in front of the building attracts local skateboarders, and the walls surrounding the building attract graffiti artists, carrying the modern art into the streets. The scale and design of the building also contrasts with the old and narrow streets nearby. There were great interactive exhibits and vibrant modern works inside. The museum seemed to focus on lesser known artists, and seemed to take more risks than other modern art museums in the works it chose to showcase. Beyond being thought provoking, the exhi...Read More
