A good standard, Danish property overlooking the harbour. It offers comfortable rooms, and a very good breakfast. A 10-minute walk from the centre of town; all in all, just right.

I love these places! Greenland has seaman's homes in most communities, offering shelter to both passing seafarers and other travellers. The Nuuk home is reasonably priced (by Arctic Standards), and slap bang in the centre of the harbour. It is friendly, active, and warm.

A nice property located on the "outskirts" of the town. They have a couple of good restaurants and comfortable rooms. Nice town, too! All rooms have the conveniences that you might expect, and nicely decorated.

This is a must, must tour. Head out from Illulisat in a small fishing boat to the face of the Eqi Glacier. This glacier provides enough ice daily to satisfy New York's water needs! Melting a bit now, you had better get there within the next 10,000 years to see it in its peak. It remains one of the world's most dramatic spectacles. A must see.

The Faroe Islands

Old Torshavn Photo - Faroe Islands, Denmark
Quote:
Located roughly mid-way between Iceland and Scotland lie the Faroe Islands. Accessible by air or ship, these remote islands are delightful in every way. There are about 14 islands lying in a northwest/southeast manner; each island is up to 10 miles long and 2 miles wide, with the hills rising dramatically to 2,500 feet! It is a paradise for hikers, and those simply curious about life in remote places. I spent 5 days there on each of two trips; the first in the northern community of Klaksvik, and the second in the bustling capital Torshavn. Each was a very different experience, although viewed from afar, it is difficult to believe that it would be so. Fishing is the primary industry, an...Read More
