Want a delightful meal in a brand new restaurant in the middle of town? Trot yourself over to The Covey www.thecovey.com for a wonderful dining experience. A bonus is the brewery and brew pub in the same building. Plenty of free parking at the door.

So nice to be there on a too hot Texas afternoon. The beers on tap made in house are very fresh as they traveled all the way across the room. Our beautiful waitress was a charmer who led us through the long menu. If you want a hand made deluxe pizza, fine; but if you want a really great beautifully prepared and served full meal, you are in the right location.

I ordered a dish called 'Fresh Vegetable Ka-bobs ($12.95) and my sweetie had the salmon on a plank ($16.95). Both were excellent and mine especially was as pretty as a picture.

Save yourself for the desserts! I had a wonderful selection of ice cold homemade sorbets and my sweetie had a sweetie all his own, a fab creme brulee. Hang on to your hats as this restaurant is going to be a real winner and soon will be very hard to get into on weekend evenings. I predict...well I enjoyed!

It is great fun to be in on a new restaurant, especially one that is so special. If you are visiting Fort Worth, this restaurant is a few minutes from the Cultural District, Texas Christian University, and Colonial Golf Course. Located on Hulen about 1/2 way between I-30 and I-20 a few minutes west of downtown.

What a pleasure it is for us out here on the prairie to have such a fine restaurant near at hand. Not that you can get a reservation any time just because you desire one. Plan ahead! The quality of the food is top class, the service attentive but friendly, and the location very nice as it is close to downtown but in an upscale residential neighborhood.

I adore the Steak-Frites du Bistrot but if not having that I will go madly for the duck. All is excellent. Leave a bit of hunger for the pleasure of the desserts.

The wine list is very carefully thought out and presented with up-to-date advice and considerations for the season.

If you are traveling to Fort Worth, telephone ahead and book a reservation so that you will not be disappointed when you arrive in town.

The Chef will treat you kindly so long as you do not desire your steak burned to a crisp.

Free parking at the door or nearby. They are always busy on the weekends and during times of major events in town. Don't be sad, book ahead.

Cafe AspenBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Cafe Aspen located in a shopping center
I attended a special wine tasting and dinner evening at this fine restaurant. The event reminded me how very, very nice this restaurant is. The beef was so good we asked the waiter to find out what was in the sauce. A wonderful place to have that special evening out, a nice lunch, or a holiday treat.

Don't forget the piano bar and lounge at the rear of the building that now has a patio with outdoor service in fair weather.

Located in a shopping center that appears ordinary, Cafe Aspen has so far exceeded any limits as 'just a neighborhood' restaurant and is now and properly a destination restaurant for locals and visitors alike.

The layout of the restaurant includes many half walls that give you a feeling of greater privacy and comfort. The art on the walls is by local artists and is usually for sale.

Don't pass up the chance to have a dessert as they are always wonderful. The prices are fair for the quality of what you get and are certainly way below what you would pay in, for example, Dallas for a meal of similar quality.

Located about 6 miles west of downtown.

Yes, we certainly did enjoy the wines provided by Stonestreet vineyards and winery of California. This was a very special evening and hope another is scheduled. Cafe Aspen is located at 6103 Camp Bowie Blvd. in Fort Worth, Texas.

FamiliaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "La Familia"

What Al says goes!
It is with great pleasure we dined at La Familia. The restaurant moved into a new location not far from downtown Fort Worth and the Cultural District. Family-friendly and a friendly family member greets you at the door with a smile and a warm handshake.

This is handmade fresh food. They don't own a can opener and don't use hamburger meat in their dishes. Al runs a tight ship and a well organized kitchen. Get there too late and Al may have run out of one thing or another. The menu is long featuring beef and chicken but don't miss the fish and shrimp dishes.

Beware of the large portions. We ordered one meal each with a starter and took home enough for another dinner. I love the flaming cheese starter made at your table. The fajitas include all the standard fixings. I'm convinced the only way you can manage a dessert is to start with one.

The soups are fresh and very tasty especially the chicken soup. The salsa is made fresh all day long and differs vastly from what comes out of a jar. Al doesn't mistake searing hot spices for a quality salsa. All the vegetables are fresh. Also, on each table is a bowl of Mexican style pickles: good and not too hot. Fresh chips come to your table instantly, iced tea comes in large glasses, and they do love children of all ages.

I love the decor, which is a complete surprise as the location is in a shopping center. The walls are beautifully painted and are covered in photos of the family and also Texas history, the lighting is low and calming and the ceiling is an amazing work of modern metal art. Some very interesting antiques hang on the walls and there is coloring paper for little children to help pass the time waiting for the food.

Come and enjoy! You will be welcome!

Red Brick PizzaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Red Brick Pizza
Out here on the prairie many great types of food can be had, but seldom do I find a good pizza. Very seldom! I went to Red Brick Pizza with hopes fairly high and was not disappointed. The pizza is cooked extremely rapidly (the kids won't drive you crazy while waiting to eat), about 3 minutes at very high heat. The salads are fresh with a variety of choices and wine and beer is sold by the bottle along with soft drinks, fruit juices and bottled water.

Watch your navigation as the back of this restaurant faces Overton Boulevard. You have to drive into the parking lot in front of Barnes and Noble and Old Navy and look to the north to see this address in a strip retail center fairly close to Hulen Mall and Hulen Street.

There is free parking and a couple outside tables. A curious attribute of this restaurant is that nearly every table has a flat screen TV with remote control. Just like home! Amuse the children with cartoons or watch the news.

As good as this pizza is (they have sandwiches called "Fhazani" also), the size of the restaurant may become an issue at peak times. You can do carry out, but on a Sunday afternoon nearly every table was full when we arrived.

We will return and soon. I want to order a chopped salad in Greek or Italian style. A large pizza fed two adults, with four slices to spare. With a medium we wouldn't have had any to take home. A great place to stop for a bit when out shopping.

Hunt to find Spice
Set yourself up for a world food tour (specializing in Asian) and have a great time for a very reasonable price at Spice. Start out by finding this restaurant nearly hidden in a shopping center on Hulen Street. The building is sideways to Hulen and Spice is at the end of its building. Look for the tree and their sign is nearly hidden behind it.

The food is offered in a variety of serving sizes from tapas ($3 to $5), lunches ($7 to $9), to dinner ($11 and up), and in multi-course meals feasts at $45 for two very hungry people. Be sure to ask your server a lot of questions in order to figure out which items to order. I took the very easy choice of two skewers of beef of a fashion that reminded me of shish-kabob. I could have ordered rice, but the beef came with a few pieces of vegetables which made a nice sized lunch.

All the food is cooked after you order; so allow plenty of time for your meal. We had a party of over 10 and service was slow, but couples and groups of four came, ate, and went as we waited for our food.

An interesting choice of foods, with a nice selection of wines by the glass or bottle. An ordinary selection of desserts can be had, but the best of that list is likely the Ice-Cream Domingo which is their play on an ice-cream sundae.

Pei Wei Asian DinerBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Pei Wei Asian Diner
Pei Wei Asian Diners are wonderful with fast service of extremely fresh food made from the moment you order. Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Thai. Someone to please just about any one. This Pei Wei is in the Montgomery Plaza Shopping Center a couple miles west of downtown Fort Worth on several major bus lines. (In front of the Target).

In times past this building was a huge Montgomery Wards store and catalog shipping center. Creative minds saved most of the main building with the idea of having upscale shops, restaurants and Starbucks with apartments above. The apartments are still in progress but most of the restaurants are open.

You enter the restaurant, make your order, pay and then find a place to sit. Your food is made fresh and hot and brought to your table when ready. No tipping!

Wine and beer, softdrinks, bottled water, hot and cold teas are sold. A very nice place for a relatively fast meal of high quality ingredients.

Real hamburger basket!
Sometimes in all the food choices we have, you just want a hamburger. A really good hamburger and you don't want to eat in your car. Tommy's makes the best (and leanest) hamburgers around Ft. Worth.

Located in an old shopping center a mile north of the Cultural Arts District (too far too walk), Tommy's has indoor dining and a couple tables out next to the parking lot.

The menu is simple and to the point. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and a few other items in case you have a health nut in your party. 90% of the customers come for the burger baskets which come with fries. For a couple bucks you can substitute hot, sweet fried onion rings for those fries. We do one basket with each and share the fried stuff.

You can feed 2 adults and a couple of kids for less than $30. Sure it's not Jack-in-the-Box prices, but you will enjoy your food much more. The cold drinks are huge, Texas style and the coffee is above average. About half the customers order take out.

Meet your friends and neighbors at a Tommy's. We love this one, but there are a couple other locations.

Gloria's RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Absolutely fine horse!
Gloria's specializes in foods, flavors, and recipes from El Salvador, but has included a range of Tex-Mex menu selections to keep the local folk happy. Located a couple miles from downtown Fort Worth in the increasingly busy West 7th Street corridor, this restaurant is a great choice if you want a nice meal in a location handy to both downtown and the Cultural District.

Gloria's is on the street level floor of the old Montgomery Ward's building that is now called Montgomery plaza, in fact on the street that runs between the two halves of the building. We choose to dine outside on a lovely spring evening. A very pleasant thing to do.

The food is reasonably priced, the drinks are big and bold, especially during Happy Hour and the crowd is young and attractive.

I especially like the strip steak cooked in the style of El Salvador with lively spices. Don't trust me on how hot (spice-wise) it was as I have a terrific tolerance for peppers.

Don't miss the desserts as they are exceptionally good. We will return to this fine restaurant.

Cardona's Mexican Restaurant
So, you are trekking around the Fort Worth Stockyards, maybe after seeing a rodeo, and you are hungry and thirsty. What to do? Walk yourself over to the north end of Exchange Avenue to the very end of the Stockyard's Station building and get yourself a table either inside or outside at Cardona's.

The Cardona family has run a wonderful bakery in Fort Worth for a very long time. There is a strong tradition of high-quality food, properly prepared, at family-friendly prices.

We dined outside with a very good view of all that was going on. I had a plate of squash and corn enchiladas and iced tea. My husband had a huge margarita cocktail and an equally large shrimp cocktail with just enough spice.

All meals come with chips and salsa. There is plenty of room for families and children are certainly welcome and appreciated.

A very nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Chapps CafeBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Chapp's Cafe"

Chapp's Cafe
This is as American as food can get. Burgers of various types and sizes (favorite of mine is the Baby Chapps), fried onion rings, french fries, steak sandwiches, Blue Bell ice cream treats, and soft drinks. All great! You can afford to bring your family here!

Don't let the address mislead you. This restaurant faces Hulen Street and is back from the Walgreen's and the big gas station and mini mart.

You walk up to the counter, order and pay. You fix your own drinks. The hot food is brought to your table. Plenty of seating. Plenty of room. No waitress service as such. Open long hours and every day. Very busy after Friday night football games.

Attraction | "'United We Stand' 2006"

United We Stand, Ft Worth Public Art
Fire Station #8 is named for the late Vince Genovese who was a true friend and helper to many fire fighters and never said 'no' when there was a need. The station and the public art honor the Big V and the fire fighters.

Please come and see this wonderful new piece of public art at the brand new Fire Station #8 near the medical center in Fort Worth. By artist Eric McGehearty, this thoughtful tribute honors fire fighters. It already is a popular place to take photos and children really love climbing around on the boots which are bronze with patina and represent the classic 3/4 boots worn by firefighters in the past.

These 12 pair of boots honor fire fights preparedness and camaraderie while the words "Courage, Duty, Honor and Vigilance" displayed on the windows of the stations tower reinforce their core values.

Bless them all!
