Rainbow Gardens is a bed and breakfast located on the green in Milford, CT. For our first anniversary, my girlfriend and I decided to check it out. She had the fried calamari for an appetizer which was excellent. I had the lobster bisque, which was also great. They served some excellent bread and a really good salad. Moderns is a great place for real Italian type pizza, according to my girlfriend. Correction, the best place. I thought it was good, although I am a fan of Greek style pizza. We had a large with pepperoni and olives and a small with fresh tomatoes, mushrooms and garlic. I would definitely go back for more. The total including a bruschetta appetizer was about $30. The service was a little lacking. The waitress seemed a little preoccupied, but I guess you don't go to a pizza, oops, apizza (whatever that means) joint expecting great service. But, like I said, the food was really good.

Xando is a chain coffeehouse. The one in New Haven is a great place to just hang out and unwind. There is a bar on the first floor and a little spot to sit. They have some really good pizza there too. Upstairs is the 'restaurant' area. They have tables, couches and a little dining area. The coffee is always good and the service is ok. I've never had a bad experience there and always enjoy ending an early evening by hanging out upstairs. If you're in the mood, they also serve smores. The Rainbow Cafe is a chain restaurant that is around the country (and the world). It's really nice inside and done well. The food is excellent and it is a great place to take kids. The only problems are that there really isn't a lot of privacy and the wait to get a table is very long. You cannot make same-day reservations, which I also found inconvenient. Oh well. We each had a different type of food (pasta, burger, pot roast) and all were very good. The portions are nicely sized as well. Dinner cost around $50 (we didn't get alcohol) and we did use an Entertainment Card. I would probably go back on occasion if it was a little closer to home. Probably a once a year thing for me.

This is a great place for a quick day hike. I take my dog up there and she just runs around and likes to play in the water. The hike is pretty easy, especially if you start on the lake side. We typically start at the side of the falls, go through the bridge and follow the creek. From there, you walk up the hill and follow the path until you reach the old fire lookout tower. It's just far enough to take a quick break and enjoy the view. After that, you continue around the hill and down along a smaller creek bed. From there, you come out at the lake. Then, it's just a short walk back to the parking lot.

Along the beach in West Haven is a nice place to walk and hang out in the summer. There are tons of people that walk up and down the boardwalk, hang out, ride bicycles and rollerblade. Everyone is very friendly. There is an area which some people set up a stereo system and get together and do some country line dancing. They have an outdoor bocce court, in which the seniors have seniority. It's hilarious to listen to them go about the game and the girls walking by. There used to be an amusement park there at the turn of the century and there are signs and pictures along the walkway about it. It is pretty safe, as there is a police station right there.
