Jazz Fest 2006

An April 2006 trip to New Orleans by montana boy

Jazz Fest 2006

Overview

Quote:
Two weekends in New Orleans in the spring with food, music, and an occasional drink.

Quick Tips:

While New Orleans is not ready for residents, it is ready for tourists. We saw great resturants that were practically empty all over town. If you believe in New Orleans, it is definitely time to drop by and leave a sheckel or two.

Best Way To Get Around:

You can get around with public transit, but if you can afford to rent a car, that is the best way to go. If you stay in the downtown, quarter, and marigny area, you can walk around.

Chez Nous

Hotel

Quote:
Located in the Faubourg Marigny, this is a guest house with kitchenette, separate bedroom, and other apartment like amenities. The neighborhood is compared to what the quarter used to be like, and what I image Greenwich Village used to be like. Low rent, lots of clubs, artists, etc.

The hosts are wonderful. We already have our reservations in for next year.

Attraction | "New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival"

The fest has been going now since around 1970. I would think that most fans of American roots music have made the trip, or at least thought about it. The fest is the last weekend in April and the first weekend in May. The music includes everything with musical roots or heritage from Louisiana. That is a fairly broad swath of music including gospel, blues, funk, Cajun and of course jazz.
