Whether you are visiting Houston or making your way up to Dallas be sure to check out all that Conroe has to offer. Conroe is located approximately 40 minutes north of center city Houston within Historic Montgomery County. Located in the Big Thicket district of Texas Conroe holds a wealth of history and beauty on every corner. Conroe is a Texas main street city, as well as the birthplace of the Texas flag. From checking out the local culture and history to antiquing, golfing or checking out the great prices at the local outlet malls, Conroe has a wealth of things to do to keep everyone interested.

Conroe’s biggest tourism venue is its beautiful Lake Conroe. Lake Conroe is a man made 22,000 acre lake that is a great recreational facility, if your idea of fun is boating, fishing, jet, skiing, kayaking or just laying around basking in the sun then Lake Conroe is the place for you. The Lake is home to many great local merchants and a wealth of yearlong activities. There are numerous Lakeside golf courses, shops, marinas and restaurants. If you are looking for a night away, then you may want to check out the Southern Empress, Lake Conroe’s, dinner cruise boat, which is sure to offer a night of dancing, variety and great food.

Did I mention the shopping? Conroe has access to some of the best antiquing in Texas by taking a short 10 minute scenic drive west out towards the historic Montgomery. If new shops and sales is more your idea of fun, then the Conroe Outlet Mall is the place for you. Be prepared to spend a whole day tacking all the shops that this place has to offer, stores such as Nike, Gap, Guess, Carters, Claiborne, Bass, Sunglass Hut, Oneida, Mikasa and so much more!

Stay a day or week, Conroe has enough to entertain the most demanding of visitors, soak up its beauty as you drive though and visit our parks, or relax and play a round of golf on one of the many luxury courses or on the lake or as you find the best bargain on your shopping adventure, Conroe is sure to be great place for a family vacation any time of the year.

Be sure to check out the following attractions while you are here: the Creighton Theater, The Conroe Outlet Mall, Heritage Museum of Montgomery County, the Heritage Place outdoor theater, which has numerous events and outdoor concerts throughout the season, check out the schedule at www.cityofconroe.org/parks

If you decide to make your way to Montgomery check out their home page to see their schedule of events at www.historicmontgomerytexas.com. And don’t forget while you are here that the first Saturday of the month is the Farmers Market in Downtown Montgomery.

If scouring and dealing are more to your liking, check out the deals you can fine in cut- n-shoot, yep that’s a real town. This town is just a short minute drive east from center city Conroe and its one of the biggest flea market venues in the area, but get there early as bargains move fast on Friday through Saturday mornings!

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around Conroe is by personal car. If you aren't driving in to stay then checking out a car at one of the many rental agencies will be your best best. Conroe is a rural city, so mass transit is not established. Taxis are few to far between and in most cases will cost you considerably. There are no bus routes, trains or subway routes to depend upon either. Read Less
