A December 2004 trip
to New Orleans by Vagabondo
Quote: I visited New Orleans over the New Years Eve prior to the Hurricane Katrina natural disaster that devastated the city. My review of the W Hotel may or may not be accurate post-Katrina.
Lobby - I consider the W to be a very upscale hotel whose target guest is a twenty something to mid-30s professional. The decor of the lobby and the rooms is modern/progressive. In the lobby you will find a bar, tables, and love seats in which guests can relax and mingle. One of the most popular lounges in town, Whiskey Blues, is located right on the lobby level of the hotel. Unlike most bars in New Orleans, whiskey blues is dress to impress (no hats, no sneakers, no collarless shirts).
Rooms - The room we had was quite small for having two double beds, but the decor was nice and the sheets were unbelievable comfortable. We didn't spend too much time in the room so its small size was not too much of a concern.
Amenities - The gym and pool seemed really nice. I was in no mood to lift weights or swim over my New Years vacation but I imagine that under different circumstances I would certainly take advantage of those facilities. Complaints - Only two of the four elevators were working. At times more than 20 people were queued for the elevators. The room was stayed in had no dressers. In our room there was a long, Viking-style table that looked nice by served no particular purpose. I like to unpack my bag once I enter a hotel room but that was not an option given the lack of drawer space.
