Overview

Although not written for the Indian Lake in Ohio (and the Cowsills have probably never been to Indian Lake Ohio, to my knowledge). The locals like to think the song is for them!Located 60 miles northwest of Columbus, 65 miles North northeast of Dayton and 90 miles south of Toledo, Indian Lake is a 5,800-acre lake. We live here and it really has a lot to offer in the immediate area - -year round - -not just for the summer fun - -although that is the busiest time in the area!!!!It is like a step back into the past . . . .it is VERY small town . . . .a great place to spend some family time and enjoy some outdoor activities!!!Quick Tips: If you are looking to sta...Read More

Indian Lake Resturants

Story/Tip

Resturants at Indian Lake are not going to fall in the category of fine dining . ..nor are they going to be ‘good’ restaurants associated with known chains. They are small privately owned places which essentially cater to the casual diner who has spent the day on a boat and probably hasn’t showered yet. There is a really good web site at http://indianlake.com/entertainment.htm which lists all of the local restaurants, they are as follows: Tilton Hilton, my person favorite. It's a fully leaning building which looks as though it will be gone new season, has been a staple at the lake forever! They had the BEST burgers which are HUGE! You’re not going top find any health foods. The atmosphe...Read More

Airfest

Who would have thought? In little nowhere Bellefontaine, Ohio, an air show which is worthy of great praise. It is an annual event. We ended up going the first time because we had complementary tickets, thinking we would be there for less than an hour. We were stunned when 4 and a half hours later we left happy and well entertained. Each year at the Bellefontaine airport they put on the Airfest, there are some food booths for goodies to eat and some booths with various flying related items. The highlight is the air show itself!!! They bring in some very impressive stunt fliers. One was Brett Hunter who did phenomenal stunts in a biplane. An other was Nancy Lynn who did an outstanding performa...Read More

Attraction | "Fourth of July Fireworks at Indian Lake"

Indian Lake State Park Photo,

Fourth of July without a doubt is my favorite time at the lake. The summer is in full swing and they have events planned around the area like a large beach party at the state beach—the scheduled events can be found at http://www.logancountyohio.com/index.html, http://www.peakofohio.com/ or http://www.indianlake.com/news.htm. But what makes it the best is the fireworks display. Indian Lake does a stellar job of putting on a terrific fireworks display. They collect corporate and individual donations for the presentation and each year it just seems to get better and better. What makes the display really terrific is watching it from the lake on a boat. This is something which is really worth doing ...Read More

Attraction | "Indian Lake - Tubing on the lake"

Indian Lake State Park Photo, Indian Lake, Ohio
Quote:
Tubing is great, tubing is simple. Most tubes have a nylon/canvas around them and so getting into a comfortable position is very possible. Usually you won’t want you knees on the floor of the tube because feeling the bumps in that position is not very comfortable (kids won’t usually mind, but adults really get uncomfortable fast.. Each type of tube has it’s own pros and cons. Smaller tubes are less stable, so the chance of flipping is higher, but sometimes the flip is the most fun—mainly for those watching from the boat. The smaller tubes take on water at the take off point when they are towed when a large (more than about 130 pounds) is riding. As the speed increases they then get higher in the fro...Read More

Indian Lake offers unlimited horsepower boating (which is unique for small inland lakes) and has a number of boat ramp areas (the two most popular. Moundwood state park at the south of the lake and Chippewa State Park at the north. There are also private ramp areas but some pay a fee, so put the boat in for free and park without fee in the state lots which have ample parking). If you are looking to rent a boat. Spend a day marina is the best (and just about the only) choice, they rent v-hull speed boats and pontoon boats. Their web site is http://www.spendaday.com/ where they list prices. Their boats are well maintained and people are pleased with the experience. Pontoon boats and ...Read More

Attraction | "Indian Lake Biking/Walking Path"

Indian Lake State Park Photo,

The Indian Lake bike path provides an open 3 mile path on the southwest corner of the lake. The path is asphalt and has a great surface for biking, skating or walking. It provides a full waterfront trip and the area is open and on most days the breeze is terrific. At the half way point of the oath is a small playground area for children and a pretty clean rest room facility. There is also a second restroom building towards the end of the path. The path ends at the entrance to Oldfield beach which is the large state owned beach facility which is a very nice park area. The path’s beginning has a parking lot (there is parking at the end and the halfway point also) and spaces are always available...Read More

Indian Lake has a big draw of the state campgrounds. It is a very nice facility where there are 441 campsites suitable for tents or trailers. The campground offers electric hookups for most sites, heated shower houses, flush toilets, laundry facility and camp commissary. A beach, boat ramp and boat docks are provided for exclusive camper use. One section of the park allows campers with pets. There are a few cabin fixture sites which are available for rent. There are a few limited nature paths which are completed in a pretty short time.We aren’t campers but find ourselves there annually for the big Halloween week-end. The date can be found by contacting the park their site is http://www.ohiod...Read More

Mad River Mountain

Attraction

Mad River Mountain is about 15 minutes from Indian Lake and is a full service ski area. All of us in our group are not skiers but that doesn’t matter in the cold weather because they also have a tubing option. You need no experience to ride but you do need to be 42" to ride-no exceptions. You can hold onto other tubes on the way down buy there is only one rider to one tube. So a child must ride by themselves but you (in your own tube) can stay right with them (the tubes have large handles so it is no problem holding onto another tube). The ride down is fun, you turn and there are bumps along the way, each run has a different character so try them all and choose your favorite! Don’t make the mista...Read More

Marmon Valley Farm is located about 10 miles from Indian Lake. This is a place which has a lot to offer. Their biggest draw are horses—and if you have children traveling with you, horses are a real find!!!! They offer trail rides which are an hour. And cost $20 (although they do give you a discount per rider if you are in a family group or four or over). The children must be 6 years of age to ride on the trail ride. There are no double riders allowed (regardless of your experience) so if you have young children the4y will not be allowed to go if under 6. The best news for the children under six is that there are ponies available and for a reasonable price you can take ...Read More
